another thing i do when setting up a board is make it so if something screws up i can patch out a whole string of pedals rather than hunt through them one by one. i won't be happy, but i'll manage, and in a live context time means everything.
the boring infrastructure stuff generally makes me happy because it means that a problem is solved that required material intervention. for example, i was really pleased when i got the power supply for the front-end board because i could solve the daisy-chain noise problem, and it will be great to get the rest of the stuff for the looper board so everything is actually in one place in the sequence i want. would i rather buy a cool modulation box? well, certainly. but i like having things better organized and more useable.

I agree and if I was to go at this with my setup it would be...

similar to cleaning up my apartment, which i did recently after living in the sort of disaster area you'd expect of someone so depressed that he just doesn't give a fuck since 2015, i've been really surprised at how satisfying it is to carefully coil up each power supply cable so everything under the board's nice and neat. no tangles on this board! it's like occupational therapy.

I spent the afternoon cleaning my weird basement noise dungeon and realized while I dislike spending money on utilitarian things I love being organized. All the spooky stuff (rubber severed limbs, skulls, etc) are neatly stored in a bucket, my unused pedals are in plastic tubs, I moved a shelf over to store my mixer and some other junk, hopefully that will help get me motivated to try and be creative. I put the extra cables for my PP2 in a tub and patch cables in another. It’s nice. Kind of scary but nice. The only downside is I don’t have room for my Blood Incantation flag any more so it has to get folded up with my other flags. It’s hands down the best flag I own.

I wanna hear more about this. What pedals did you use? How did you set them? Not trying to hijack the thread!
I feel this way about picks - As long as they don't break I use them until the they're pretty worn down. Then when I finally do pick up some new ones, it takes a little getting used to because they're pointier than I'm used to.

Noise gate arrived...using it is only marginally more fun than buying it. Sigh
