Um, no, the repair guy obviously produced a major fuck up and owes you a DD-20. Seriously, I replaced the encoder on mine a few weeks ago. It's as straight forward a repair as it can get and super easy. No reason to return the pedal with multiple weird issues.

Yeah, that's a load of bs.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If I'm dissatisfied they'll do me some kind of store credit, or source another. I'm actually hoping the credit they offer is good because they've got a few things I'm interested in.
Thanks for the validation!
ETA: Do you have any idea what kind of fuckup could cause this? I don't know anything, and I like to be as well-armed as possible when confronting these kinds of things.

Yeah, see, one of the tone fairies died. The two remaining ones are doing the best they can.

Surely there should be a billion fairies in the Giga Delay, and just one dying wouldn't make much of a difference... right?

The conclusion of the saga, at long last:
I sent the tech two texts, told him I didn't feel comfortable taking a compromised pedal, and asking what they would offer for credit - and did not hear anything for just under a week (previous interactions had always been timely). Finally I had a nice apologetic text directing me to talk to one of two other guys who handled that kind of thing. I talked to the guy who then emailed me an offer of $120, under the impression that I hadn't paid for the repair. I corrected that and said I was really expecting around $200, to cover the cost of the pedal and the repair, and that I was thinking about picking up a Pitch Fork Plus for them. He wrote back swiftly and offered to do a straight trade to make up for the inconvenience of it all, which I accepted. Picked the new PF+ yesterday and everyone was great and I feel like overall I came out a winner.
Thanks for all the help!

I'm extremely curious to hear some first hand impressions of the PF+. In particular: does the effected signal only reach volume unity, or there's some knob space to boost it above the original without lowering the dry level?
(also happy to hear you somehow solved the problem this way)
