Parallel humbucker coils is nice—more open and less congested while still hum canceling. You got me thinking about adding a strangle switch to my planned rewiring project.

I have a set of Lollar Firebirds in a cheap Tele. Really great pups. I'd say the tone is tight, focused, compared to HBs. It does sound like a regular Tele with more punch. The bridge pick-up is totally usable in any context; the neck pick-up is really edgy. I don't know how to describe that, but they bring that smooth compression that's so enjoyable, and don't have the flubbyness of HBs.
I remember playing real WRHBs a long time ago and was in love with that sound. They might sound more open, bring less compression, than the firebirds, but still tighter than HBs.
