I think playing around and having fun till I'm super happy is the goal
Slightly stymied at the moment because I need to borrow a drill to make any permanent mods with pots or switches. But I will try some simple component swaps soon I think.

Use decent bits, those enclosures are a pita, and bend easily.

There is a thread I posted many years ago here on ILF it was a muff with 13 knobs I think. I don't recommend it. There was a shitload of time tracing out the circuit, planning the wiring, planning the drill holes. Documenting everything. Knobs were coming out of the sides like old 4ms pedals. The wiring took ages. Never again would I be stupid enough to do something like that for less than $1000. In the end you have a big muff.

I 100% agree. seems to be way to much bass going into the clipping stage and then a really dramatic mid scoop at the tone knob. Also seems to me both EQD hoof and BAT pharaoh were designed specifically so you could dial all that out.
That said, I mean, Im thinking of almost all my favorite guitarists have used a likely stock big muff on records and live and its sounds absolutely wonderful in their hands.

I had a Pharaoh once and it was pretty great for tone but it just sounded a little... boring? On guitar anyway, great on bass. This has the major advantage of being too cheap to flip (and soon too modded to flip). Fundamentally I don't love Big Muffs but it's cool to have one around

Mod the input stage to be a treble booster. I think it's doable? Idk if you can do more loud but cutting more bass if definetly doable
(reason is that I really like big muffs when you hit them with tons of treble)
EDIT: necro Oops
