Re: Jaguar mods!! pickup suggestions?
Jags have been my go to for about 10 years, I've tried tons of mods, I've settled on a simple Telecaster wiring/switch and avri pickups.
Alumitones sound very similar to Jag pickups imho, I had them in a JM, they were ok, but sort of characterless, they had a nice run of the mill single coil sound.

Re: Jaguar mods!! pickup suggestions?
I can't recommand enough the MAstery bridge!
I've installed one on my MIJ Jazzmaster, and it's incredible!
First of all it solved a lot of known issues, like string jumping out the saddles, general intonation and tuning stability.
Second the guitar got alive: unplugged it sounds a lot more resonant and loud! Plugged I had the impression the sound was thicker than before with much more sustain.
Huge improvement indeed!
For the pickups check out Creamery in England.

They have a lot of Jaguar (as well as Jazzmaster) pickups, and you can directly contact Jamie, if you have any special wishes (I still have to place the order, but we were talking about a customized a set for my JM, a Alt-88 Mid range with Alnico 4 magnets, and a slightly overwound '58 also with Alnico 4).

Interested to hear what you think if you get them, I've been considering emailing them for ages about my jaguar.

Re: Jaguar mods!! pickup suggestions?
A week and something ago I've received that set of Creamery pickups which I've ordered for my MIJ Jazzmaster.
The set consist of an Alt-88 Mid Range for the bridge and a '58 neck (customized with Alnico IV magnets on both pickups, and a '58 slightly overwounded to match the Alt-88).
After a few days spent playing the guitar I can only say... wow: now it's a Sludgemaster!
I love that the bridge Alt-88 has a very high output volume a lot of bite in the mids and more bass (which was totally missing before), but it still has that JM-single coil character, and as soon as you turn the distortion on, it's almost as thick as an humbucker, but still with that twangy character.
The 58 is very warm but has still that wonderful cristal clear quality, that you can tame with the rhythm circuit.
Together I find these has somehow a sound which to my ears is a lot reminiscent of '80 new-wave/post-punk.
Note: with the original PUs this guitar was very quiet and shy (original MIJ pickups were ok, but thin sounding, icy and mid-scooped). Now it's almost as loud as my main guitar (baritone with aluminium neck), which has hi gain HB (Bareknuckle Nailbomb set)!
So far, I'm super impressed, as these deliver the sounds I was looking for! I think that a key element was chatting with Jamie before placing the order, so that he could shape the PUs suited for my needs.

Re: Jaguar mods!! pickup suggestions?
yes I've been planning on modding a squier VM jaguar... I also don't really use the bridge pickup much, sounds very thin and quietbut apparently this is actually what its supposed to sound like? I'll admit the both pickups sound is a lot better than most guitars though so maybe thats the point
this is the most interesting uncomplicated mod I have found, it makes everything as normal but instead of both pickups off you get both pickups series
