Is it any worse than all the Korg, Roland, Arturia, Novation, etc. budget synths made in Chinese factories just down the road from wherever they make the Model D?
Or made in the very same factories...
But..

I’ve bought a Super Fuzz new and I’ve bought a used Bass EQ in the past. They’re not a very good company but I feel worse about the amazon prime account I signed up for because I want to watch Fleabag....

i can't say if it's worse, but i can say it's also bad. this doesn't seem the place to get in depth on the ways modern capitalism makes us expect things to be available at prices (and, thanks to bezos, at a speed) that are impossible with ethical working standards. it's not like my individual decisions have any effect, but the actions of behringer himself combined with that are enough to ensure i avoid his stuff.

fleabag is a good show, the super fuzz is a good pedal. voting with your dollars is a futile illusion of power. I try to do what I can but ultimately I don't have many dollars to vote with anyway

I just never see "Fuck Late Capitalism" or "Fuck Roland" or Fender/Epiphone/etc. or any of those other companies, it's Behringer singled out - which indicates to me that the ultimate beef for most isn't with production in China/low-wage countries or capitalism itself.

Oh, no, I for one am happy to say FUCK Fender/Gibson [they own Epiphone] and Fuck Roland too

I have various reasons other than just not wanting to buy from low wage countries but I do try not to do that when I can.. it's tough though most normal things like hair brushes and rice makers are made that way.. and even if you don't spend a lot more money you will spend more time.. as for Behringer I think a big chunk of the hate is from Fender/Gibson/Roland/EHX and so forth fans/loyalists over design copying...

Yeah, I’ve said it elsewhere, but I can’t really slag on Behringer for doing roughly equivalent things as other businesses (setting up factories in low wage countries). But I do take issue with the way they treated Peter Kirn. They went after an individual with a harassment campaign and trademarked his name. While they have since cancelled that trademark, no corporation should attack an individual like that. They apologized, but deleted the apology. So, a company who behaves like that isn’t going to get my money.
edit: a word on cloning, I honestly don’t care what they clone 90% of the time. As long as they aren’t cloning current production gear I don’t really care. When it comes to their model D and ARP 2600 clones, even though those are current productionish they way the
original companies have decided to price their products only leaves room for someone to undercut their prices. A modern reissue of a 50 year old synth shouldn’t cost more than those companies’ current flagship products.
Behring’s clone of the Mother32 is a different story. They originally market Crave as something that wasn’t based on anything else, which sounded great in concept. But after comparing specs with the Mother 32, it was pretty obvious what they’d done.

A growing number of companies now offering mass-produced, affordable clones of discontinued pedals seem to be overshadowing Behringer, but the following may be of interest to some here:

I saw Jay Randall retweet that article about $29 synth modules and thought “I wonder if Behringer is still cancelled?”

meh, at $29(USD) a pedal I would have a hard time not justifying buying one or 4.

nope. behringer owns a town in china that makes only behringer. the only brands being made in the behringer campus are brands he owns. in general though, most of the guitar pedals, mixers, synthesizers etc.. made in china will be in close proximity to shenzhen. a lot of it is in guandong because everything needs to be close to shenzhen and hong kong. the more you know the better.

This is a great point, as a sales guy who makes his living off of selling commercial kitchen appliances; Chia has just about any item you could want at the fraction of the cost because they copy it and make it way cheaper. 90% of the time you get the same results which makes it hard for people to not consume what they make. I really do try to support local manufacturing when I can but as it was previously mentioned it take a lot of time and energy to find an alternative when the cheep shit is so easy to get.
