Are there any table samplers that you can go outside and use and mix on the fly after recorded? Meaning manipulate the recorded sounds with effects? Time stretching, pitch shifting...you know. The good stuff.
For hardware the SP series is really good with this.
Bearstripes wrote:I feel like the model samplesIs Really a big boi version of the volca and wouldn’t add much to my setup. The fact that it can’t record samples on its own kinda sucks to me. I wrote that off a while ask but I’ll check it out again. I also find the rack stuff pretty intimidating as well as lost the older gear with the old file formats and what not.
Have you looked at the Digitakt?

Yea, and while I’m really into it it’s jus way outta my range right now. I’m thinking about trying the mpc studio. I have been anti software forever but I think it’s time to give it a shot. Still thinking about a 1000 as well. Could prob ditch the circuit and the volcas and wait til one pops up kinda cheapish. One thing that I’m into is the po33 work flow. If there was a big boy version of that it would be perfect. The simpler the better for me cause I have mad add and the whatnot. I’m willing to revamp my whole setup because I’m home right now for a while and really wanna give this a go now that I have some free time (still not too much chasing a 7 year old around). Keep the recommendations coming cause you folks are great!

I hear you about wanting to sample using the unit itself. That's the one limitation of the model:samples.

I think I might have said this in an earlier thread but here digitakts and MPC1000s cost the same. Is the digitakt really more where you are? :idk:

MPCs look very good though and a lot of people use them, probably a good choice. If you're happy always using software the Studio looks super cool. :thumb:

Been doin a ton of research and think I’m gonna go software. Before I take a plunge (prob mpc studio black due to price and I’ve been wanting to try an mpc) I wanted to see if anyone else had any insight on this. Like the whole maschine scene? Mk2 and studio can be had for cheap but I’m aware that they are outdated (maybe still worth it?). Or any other setup with software? One thing I would love is for it to be able to be the brain and sequence my other gear. May redo my whole setup based on what I scoop up and if I like the workflow and what not.

I remembered this Daydream Sound video on the Maschine as a master MIDI control hub: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw6ovbe59DU

Prob leaning towards maschine cause the price drop and lack of stock are leading me to think the studio is being discontinued. Maschine de cost a lot more than I want/can spend right now so I’m back to square 1.

Surely a price drop is a good time to buy a studio? Unless you mean you can't find one anywhere...

A pre-loved digitakt is likely within budget. Also, it could be worth looking at a used Octatrack MK1, which is essentially the same as the MK2 but with less dedicated buttons and whatnot. I bought one for 650€ last year, which I realize is a fair amount of money but if that is budget-proximate I would consider it.

And the reason I am again saying that is because elektron has such neat tricks built in. Trig conditions and that sorta thing really set their stuff apart, to make stuff that doesn't just sound like a loop going over and over. The Digitakt and Octatrack seem to me have very similar sampling functionality, but taking an extra look at the OT could be worth it as well. It can serve as a mixer for other shit, do a ton of sequencing and all that stuff. People say that they are incredibly complicated machines, but I am really stupid and I feel like I have it figured out.

So I actually just impulsively scooped an mpc 1000. Had a chance at one local for 350! But that fell thru which sucked. After that i decided to scoop one on eBay and give it a shot. Can prob flip it for the same if I’m not diggin it. If this don’t work out next step will be the elektron stuff or software but I’m pretty excited to give this ago.

That being said, anyone here have much experience with these machines? I’m pretty stoked to use it as a sampler/beat machine as well as a hub for my whole setup.

Yea I’m pumped! I figure I’m stuck at home and this is the only time that I have had “free time” in like 8 years so I’m taking advantage of it. Def gonna be rad! tho I’ve never tried one I have always thought the workflow looked so easy

Yeah they look like a lot of fun to me. I imagine there's a reason everyone uses them lol

Welp, up arrow on the mpc came broke. It’s the tact switch and my soldering skills are trash let alone the fact the my soldering iron is broke. So gonna return it and back to square one until I can scoop one under 500 again
