I'm not sure what you are talking about with the blender not having any volume. It(the RI and the v1's) has a tone boost that also boosts the overall volume as well, and with that switch engaged, it is literally one of the loudest pedals out there (amongst other newer contenders). Without the boost engaged, it is very dark, scooped and barely hits unity gain, agreed. But I just don't use that mode when I use it. It DOES NOT like humbuckers very much, ime. It doesn't like an input signal with alot of top end either (I usually roll my tone knob back a little). Its basicly an octavia style pedal with less mids, way more bass and treble, and a fuck ton of gainy compression on tap. Its one of those pedals that you don't just step on. You actually play the pedal( you have to adapt your technique to get the right tones out of it (playing close to the neck and playing softly, the harder you pick the more compressed it gets). some players know how to adjust their touch to them, some just can't quite grasp that concept. I will say that it really isn't that identifiable in very many SP or MBV songs, you won't be playing this pedal and have a "so thats how they got that sound!" moment, at least not the way you would with a Big Muff or Rat. I have the reissue and am very happy with it (got it off ebay for 80 bucks from someone who didn't mesh well with it). I will say this though, don't buy this one thinking you are gonna cop all those great Pumpkins or Valentine's tones, if I had to guess, billy only used it on 2 or 3 solos in the entire pumpkins catalog, and Kevin used it on 2 songs off of Isn't Anything . But I use the fuck out of it for lead playing on recordings and occasional fuck with people's heads live. Good pedal if you can get it for under 100 bucks imo.

The only thing I really liked about the Blender was when you do dive-bombs or dissonant chords it's really fucking ugly, but it sounds different throughout the bend. Not going to pay that much to use the dysfunctional part of a pedal. Not yet at least.

i was trying to get one of those on craigslist in a trade for my cheap acoustic guitar this summer but the deal fell thru. never got to test it but i guess really they should have called it Graphic Overdrive.
IDK i just really needed an EQ pedal.
