Fuzz is such a useful tool. There are so many flavors and combinations to choose from, and even the way they interact with other pedals/amps/pickups makes each one its own universe of possibilities. There’s never going to be a day that I don’t love fuzz

Play humbuckers or single coils?
Humbuckers objectively suck with fuzz 95% of the time. Objectively.

Low-outputting humbuckers. I dislike single coils and bright/crisp-sounding stuff. (I.e. when *I'm* playing. There's a ton of great-sounding bands with single coils and P90s, of course!)

I don't dislike fuzz, but I don't think I have a proper fuzz? The only fuzz I actually have is a Data Corruptor, if that actually counts...? My dirt tends to be more OD or just driving my amp.
I do absolutely regret selling my TAFM and Buzzz though. I need to acquire those again

Really? I guess I assumed humbuckers are "better" for heavier tones. Now I'm curious about the differences. Gonna pull out the split-coils tonight and take a fuzz ride.
My attitude towards fuzz was already in my signature.

Single coils are lower output so super gainy fuzz becomes less compressed. There is probably some inductance thing too that makes more sense with single coils but there are alot of variables. I think muffs sound better with humbuckers because they arent scooped and hitting a big muff with mids is always healthy.
Humbuckers arent always better for heavy tones, there is one interview with Steve von Till where he says that switching to single coils has made his tone way mre heavy. The humbucker=more heavy i think stems from the early days of heavy music when single coils were way noisier than now so i you wanted to be loud and distorted hmbuckers were less noisy. They were also just louder so you could get more distortion and the eq curve is mid humpy so its more "ideal" for really distorted sounds. That just kinda stuck so now people think you cant play heavy music with single coils.
Pickups are boring though the only thing that matters is that you use fuzz (alot)

Humbuckers can be nice with fuzzes that like to be overdriven a little. If you have some hot humbuckers you can sometimes mimic that effect with how hard you play. It’s harder to do that with single coils. Sometimes the overly-compressed tones can get super splatty/crumbly in a way that’s harder to accomplish with single coils.
It really just depends on what you’re trying to do?

I like how creamy fuzz can be with humbuckers or with your tone knob down. I like to roll off the carbonation and get a vowelly sound.

I felt the same way for a lot of time (i liked the sound of some fuzzes but couldn't seem to use it in my own songs), then i started using it only in specific moments, then i grabbed the Bitquest and used the fuzz mode for every "solo" i threw out. The TAFM was one of the "almost always on" fuzzes i had too.
Uh, all of this if we don't count Muffs, i loved muffs since forever and never had a single board without one.

Fuzz and distortion and overdrive are the same thing
