Recommend me a rock amp?

red knob twin is underrated imo. yes it's heavy. yes the drive section isn't what dentistdadblueslawyers are probably looking for. but it's great clean platform and the combo of power options, fx loop, and channels means you can make it do pretty much wtf you want. i'd put in neo speakers if i was gigging/moving it on any sort of regular basis. i'd pick a redknob over a reissue and put the savings into speakers and a good handtruck.

I read somewhere (on this board I think?) that the Fender reissue of the Sunn Model T is actually a rebrand of the red knob Twin (Showman head). Also the dude in the Mermen used to rock the red Showman and his tone is incredible.

Fender Bassman =/= OG Model T.

They're good for cleans, very, very loud (I had one for a couple years, I don't think I ever got any power tube distortion from it), kind of a flat, thick clean though, so you could throw a lot of pedals in front of it without worrying about them disagreeing with the natural clean. But I will say this, getting it repaired is a huge, costly pain in the ass.

Quilter 101 Reverb and a 212 cab.

I've been sorely tempted by Quilter, I gotta say. What's your reason for going head/cab rather than combo?

If you go for a light weight head like the Quilter it will be way lighter and easier to carry than a 212-combo.
And if you know that there will be a decent cab at the venue, you can just bring the head.
I got a 101 Mini Head(not the Reverb) and it is my main live amp atm. I got a Traynor YBA1 as well, and that's a beast,
but since I don't drive and the YBA1 could be in a better condition I just use that in the studio now.

Yeah quilter plus cab is easier than a combo to carry for me.

I have a quilter 201 and it is LOUD and bright but with a lot of bass in there. Really fantastic amp and I find the weird EQ very usable and useful.

What about the VT-22? It's a 2x12 combo V4 (I think, it might be different, but it sounds similar). Though honestly, for weight, you can't argue with a head (especially solid state) and seperate cab.

That's a real appealing idea, though I've never (knowingly) heard one - I love my Gemini I, and it'd be rad to stay in the family...

VT22s are very cool, look great, sound great, but holy heck moving one around sucks. There's a reason you find so many of them chopped in half.

Yeah I just saw that they run like 88 pounds. Damn, that's a lot. I don't have (constant) back issues YET...

And I should note that the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward something that can do double duty as a loud rock amp and also a lower-volume stereo partner for my Ampeg in my "main" psych/drone/whatever project. So a bigger Katana, a Club, some kinda Quilter if I wanna get fancy, or I don't know what the fuck else...

That's right now, though. In 30 minutes that might change.

that would also work, but the old silverfaces are point-to-point wiring (though i'm not a "NO CIRCUIT BOARDS!" guy, p2p is more durable) and were going for like $600-800 the last time i looked.

Welp, I'll do what I usually do, echo the virtues of the Jazz Chorus. It's good. It's legendary for a reason—you know what you're getting. It sounds good loud, it sounds good quiet, it just sounds good. Concerning taking pedal dirt well and having lots of headroom: let's just say shoegazers use JC for a reason. It's simple, not too expensive, sturdy, and just all things good. If you're happy with the way it sounds, I can't see it being a bad purchase.

I appreciate the perspective but as I said in my original post, I've come to REALLY not be a fan. I had a 120 for years until a few years ago and every time I try one now I just can't. I like listening to them a lot, but not for me.

Silver face Twin or VT-22 is a great idea as long as you don’t need to take public transportation. The VT-22 sounds like shit at low volumes, but a Twin should do great regardless. If it needs to be light, the new Tonemaster Twins sound awesome and take pedals really well? If you want a bit more gain the Marshall Origin 50 is a great choice, has an effects loop and a boost built in? Older JCM 800 combos aren’t insanely expensive either.
