It sounds like the gate doesn’t close fast enough on the ones you’ve tried.

Caps should last more than 15 years.

I’ve also heard really good things about the zvex loopngate but have never used one personally.

But I think you need the gate to close faster per Frodo’s response

Noise is high, feedback isn’t crazy? I run the gain at like 6 on either channel. Either amp is 15+ years old, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they need a recap
Ok. Having anything in front of the amp won't work.
I think you "need" a Decimator II G-string that goes in your fx loop.
That should get rid of the noise in the preamp too.
