Just my 2 cnts ofcourse...

But I'd focus on the basic core of the amp, the tone you're after. what with the realtively modest budget you're shopping with and all...:idk:

15 years ago it made sense to get an amp with a spring reverb, but these days, if spring reverb is a must-have...There's plenty of affordable pedals that sound damn close AND can be put before yer fuzz pedal :)

Fx loops are overrated too imo. In a studio, or at home, the nuance of running your delay/chorus/whatever through the loop is noticeable...
But the meh effects loop on the average cheapish tube amp, when used in a noisy rehearsel with loads of fuzz...Just not worth the extra cables impo...:idk:

Fwiw, my buddy's TH30 didn't stay clean AT ALL. And it's not like we played doom with a bunch of full stacks or anything. It distorted in a shitty way too, which worked awefull with dirt pedals.

From what I remember the C30 I played ages ago performed better at high volumes, and didn't piss on my fuzz pedals. Though it lacked the sort of oomph/lows for what I'm into these days, 30watt just isn't a helluva lot of headroom...

I wouldn't say the resale value is a downside, as long as you find a good deal for a used one with fresh tubes.
I have zero Quilter experience, but yeah...They're about half the price of a C30, right?

Don't know if you've looked into Blackstar? Those Artisan 3O's go for stupid low prices used, I guess Blackstar amp don't hold their value like Orange/PV/Mesa/Fender/Marshall/etc...But from what I read, it's supposed to sorta be a poor man's boutique amp apparantly. Zero experience with 'em myself though. Just offering an alternative for the inflated big brand prices. Too bad they look lame as fuck :)

Cheers for the comprehensive breakdown!
I think the draw towards the TH30 was mostly aesthetics and using an amp for driven sounds (something I'm not used to). Given what you - and a few other people have said - I think I might be scratching that one off the list.

The Quilter seems to be an interesting choice. It'll be a case of grabbing it new or scouring 2nd hand (like that Fretboard one - if it's close). The amount of people raving about it definitely has me interested.

However... there's a C30 going local to me cheap enough for me to treat myself to a Meris Enzo over Christmas too, which is definitely a tempting curveball. There are also a couple of Delta Blues about too for a bit more money that would mitigate any low-end issues... but "two bits of gear > one bits of gear" is kinda ruling in my mind right now.

Scouring the local classifieds, I've stumbled across this.

I can't find a lot of information on it (other than a bass head with the same name), but if anyone knows about an old Peavey 400w all-tube combo, it'll be you guys.

This manual should work, the amp pictured is a little older.

Note that it is a solid state preamp with a tube power section. I have the festival, which is the 100w version. The classic is the 50 w version.

Great amp, loudAF. I paid $200 for mine with a 412 cabinet, which is a screaming deal. $250 would be the most I’d pay for that head

Nice one. Cheers for that. It's going for £180, which might be nudging it into 'not quite a deal' territory, especially if it needs some work (and the rest of the photos don't inspire too much confidence).

I'd keep an eye for an old ampeg (V4, V2, B25... etc). You can get them for a fair price
pros: they are loud as hell, the drive is awesome, eq makes them super versatile (talking about the V series here but they are probably all pretty awesome)...
cons: heavy as fuck

they might not be as much in the UK though... peaveys are usually great for the price too
