Playing with it some more. It can definitely cover similar sonic territory but doesn’t get the blown out sound that the Fuck can get even without engaging the boom. The treble eq can go way into crispy territory. Not good on a Jag but maybe on humbuckers.
I’m happy with my purchase but again, it doesn’t bump the Fuck from this board. Not certain where to put it now since both of my boards have either a Fuck or a Mini on them.
I do wonder if EQD had a Mini or Fuck on the table during their design process.
Should the threshold light on my fuck be going off when the crackle isn’t engaged? I don’t think it used to do that.

Sent to your SSBS email. I’m not sure how to attach video here from a phone in a PM. I’m not terribly concerned about it but appreciate the help.

That was the fastest resolution to a non-issue ever. Thanks for your help Brian!

Maybe the reason they sound similar is because you play them through the same amp/speakers that may be adding quite a bit of tonal colouration themselves?

I haven't tried them side by side, but that wasn't my impression at all. What amp are you using and how hot are you running it?

I think the Westwood sounds great, but I'd never use it for anything other than a low gain, always on overdrive. And, due to certain features, I'd only ever use my Mini in high gain settings, so the two would definitely have a place together on my board.

I cordially invite you to fuck right off and let the rest of us talk about music like adults.- dubkitty

I was using a Jaguar into a Deluxe Reverb. At low(ish) levels. There is definitely a range where they were similar. With a little bit more play time the differences become more apparent. There IS a range where the voicing can be nearly identical. I strapped the Westwood on my board and it happened to be in that range I guess!
It took me by surprise because I’d gotten it to serve a different purpose. Which is why I didn’t get a Barbershop which would have similar (albeit more subdued) clipping
I can see now that the Fuck and the Westwood compliment each other nicely on the same board, but I do feel that the Westwood does dirt a lot better than is attributed. Hopefully this post makes sense. It’s early AM.

Tbh I don't understand why companies keep making these kinds of drives, and I think the love is already dwindling pretty hard. I checked out that Manticore V2 that just came out and to be honest it sounds really fantastic, but it doesn't seem like anybody's buying them, or at least they don't seem to even remotely in short supply/high demand. Kinda seems like a bad sign when the blooze lawyer set isn't pouncing on something after a ton of hype and a That Pedal Show plug. Saturation has been reached. Beyond that, it's kinda horsey to me that a company like Earthquaker, that makes usually fairly interesting things, would waste its time on another transparent drive.
I still think those kinds of drives sound good, but they had their time at the top of the pile. I hope there are more interesting things along the lines of the Mini/Fuck coming down the pipe from more manufacturers
EDIT and definitely not to knock Earthquaker—I really love a lot of their stuff. I just think their talents are better used elsewhere.

I have a mini and a westwood on my board and I don't really find them to be that close. At some settings they may overlap but they're totally different circuits. I'm not usually a transparent drive type of dude (don't dig on the Timmy) but the WW does it for me. I feel like my Barbershop is closer to the mini when the mini's gain is low. Love all 3 of those pedals and builders.

pretty sure EQD just did it to further take over people's boards and to round out their current lineup. they def knew itd sell well so i doubt they 'wasted' their time, esp if it allows them to continue to make weird stuff.popvulture wrote:Tbh I don't understand why companies keep making these kinds of drives, and I think the love is already dwindling pretty hard.
