I got this for Christmas last year. It does a great job and receives/tracks bass better than my Polytune 2. Sturdy and is only $30.

...srsly tho: even if you have perfect pitch, memorizing freq i.e. 440 if thats what you tune to for e.g. is tough. use a tuner for one reference pitch, use your ears for the rest!

I can usually remember an A (+/- a little bit) and tend to tune that way by ear most of the time, but it's very useful having tuners for recording and band practice/gigs. Small tuning errors are more noticeable on recordings, and nobody wants to hear you tune by ear.

All you people recommending "ears" are missing the point, imo.

Sonic research turbo tuner. Get the mini if you want something small. They're built like tanks and are incredibly fast and accurate, and look cool to boot.

I honestly do tune by ear a lot, I'm very good at it after a couple decades. lol.

I use the H9 as my tuner...so, I'm not much help there. There's some apps that do it for free and work surprisingly well, within a few cents of true tuning.

Yep. Solid and reliable, and as fast and accurate as it gets. True bypass, not too pricey, and not made in a korean sweat shop of any sort.

Ears, apps on yer phone...That's all nice, but good luck with that when you're on stage tuning up inbetween songs, with an audience in front of you :)

Easy solution. Have multiple instruments with multiple tunings.

I clicked this thread to suggest a Turbo Tuner...
spacelordmother wrote:Contra, an intense dude for sure, told me, quite intensely, that the Turbo Tuner is, in his not very humble opinion, the absolute best tuner out there.

I barely survived.

Anyone that suggests anything else has never been in tune. Ever. They don't even know.

I've had tu-2, polytune 2 (big and mini) and turbo tuner st-300.

St-300 wins by such a huge margin.

Side note: Get the ST-200 if you want to save a couple bucks and don't plan on using the usb "custom tunings" thing. The other upgrades are not that big a deal imo...

I keep my polytune because it has a built in daisy chain, accuracy be dammed.
