I'm in the exact same boat. I've heard the THR suggested a lot. Heard the OBNE headphone amp is good for #ambienttones but not so good for anything else. I have actually played a Neunaber Iconoclast and thought it was great, but it was through a buddy's set-up, so don't know if it would transfer. Been considering the Tiny Terror..... Possibility overload.

With the OBNE and Iconoclast.....do you need some sort of preamp?
Or is it guitar>pedals>Iconoclast?

I'm coming to terms with the fact that it's not going to sound great or sound like an amp in the room.

I remembered that I used the Hughes and Kettner Cream Machine a long time ago. Little mini amp thing with headphone out. Sounded pretty good.

Over my price range but maybe more useful overall? Jmp-1 is an option. Axe FX standard. idk

I also remembered that a Mesa V-Twin is a decent preamp but would need cab sim on top of it.

Maybe keep it simple before I run away on a GAS streak. lol

There are a lot of options in this realm. For silent playing you need something with headphone outs. For quiet playing tube stuff will be inferior to solid state.

I went the headphone route. But whatever head I want into Cab Clone has worked well. If I’m not a piece of shit I’ll try to snag my head from my space and run through the rig dry into logic for you.

I'm now questioning if its even worth keeping my loud tube amps and big cabs?

It would be many YEARS before I start thinking about gigging again.
Even then, do I need amps that are impossibly loud? (and massively heavy)

For me, part of being a parent meant adding a new slice to my own identity. Everything makes up the whole. The first 6 weeks after having a kid I didn't do anything more than strum at my guitar and read ILF. I felt like a part of me was gone. Once I got back into the practice space and could crank it up I thought to myself, "oh, yeah, this is also me."

It's easy to let certain things dictate and define what we do. You're right... You may not gig for a few years or use your amps as much... but you may regret selling some or all of them. I certainly paired down but I didn't abandon everything. Even though I don't really gig (not because of the kiddo -- just drummers not being able to get together) I still love going to the rehearsal space and letting it rip. I would've regret flipping all my gear.

I've been in a limbo state for a few years now.
Got out of bands around 2 years ago (after 15 years of bands).
Was going to take 6m to 1y break from guitar/bass......turned into 2 years.
Kid this year.

I guess I'm trying to find myself again and figure out what I enjoy.
Went down a synth/modular path for a year but totally getting out of it because I don't enjoy it.
Bought a road pedal bike that I'm fixing up over winter. So there's that.

I'm totally digging being a parent so far. It's great and amazing to see how fast they grow and develop......and how they know nothing of the world we live in.

I doubt I'd sell everything.
My wife would totally leave the house for a few hours so I could jam loud.....if I asked.
I don't have anything too rare or unique that it couldn't be purchased again later.
The Mesa Heartbreaker I have, has got to be one of the loudest amp I've ever owned. Band/gig volume is like 1 on the master. .25 at home.
lol that can go for sure. (plus they have the Mesa Fillmore now....which is a better voiced version of the HB)
I've had some of the loud stoner rock type amps and Heartbreaker is teeth rattlingly loud.

I wouldn't sell guitars or pedals though. That stuff isn't affected by gigging or volume.

Zoom G3 may be an option. Amp/cab simulation, effects, headphone capability

I’m looking at something to leave at home. Have a rockerverb at my jam space. Not sure if I want two channel or just something that has a nice dirt sound to it. Kind of want to check out some of the lunchbox heads that Orange and Mesa are making. But will likely be running through the Cab Clone anyway.

I’ve been very happy with both my boss katana and orange micro terror when using headphones. Orange had more character, maybe seemed closer to using the cab. Katana is cleaner. I miss the micro terror.

Yeah, it sounds like it's time to trade in the amps for more practical home studio stuff like monitors, mixer/interface, hard drives, etc. My brother (who is a JHS fan and TGP type of guy and a way better guitar player than me) did some moderate gear purging when he had his first son, but he never sold the drums or the beater amps, just put them in the basement. He started a new pedalboard project/pedal exploration phase then. I think it's pretty normal for the first 2 years or so of fatherhood to enter a headphone/studio/low level monitors period of self-evaluation and restructuring, often coupled with ever more GAS as a distraction/addiction/reward/etc. Fast forward 7 years, he now has 2 boys and a basement full of fun beater gear (full drum set, guitars, amps, mics, PA, hand drums, acoustics etc)that the boys are allowed to learn and play on.

For amp & cab sims I love the Digitech RP360, lots of good modern IRs. I also want to get a Mooer Radar one of these days. The rabbithole of amp sounds in a pedal is not a bad place to go exploring. Tech 21, AMT, Catalinbread, lots of great stuff out there.

Part of my issue is that what had been my music room and office is now being turned into the nursery, so I've had to move my gear out into the living room, which changes the dynamic. I've got a 5-watt Supro Bantam that sounds great for low-level bedroom playing, but without a door to shut, it might not work out.

I know at least a few of you use iPad interfaces. Any recommendations that way?

Now that it's over......all the gear just seems kinda pointless now. Time to become a blues lawyer I guess.
