Cause they use a lot of parts and a lot of power. Ours runs on +/-12V so we have a little board in each one that converts your standard 9v to the bipolar supply required.
*Edit* However, there is a chip being reissued that should make filtering a lot cheaper and easier. i think we got a couple but haven't dug in yet.

What about the Iron Ether Xenograph? I had a Deluxe that sounded killer. Pair it with a mini expression pedal and you have a great lowpass filter that's a lot cheaper and smaller than a Moogerfooger.
That said, you can avoid the $$$ side of euro if you get a really small case, since that'll stop you from expanding beyond what you need it for. Get a Doepfer low-cost case and throw in a couple of Doepfer filters. Their modules may not look super cool but their filters sound excellent.

There is a wasp filter on sale for $80 locally.. I might pick that up and a small case and dive into this shit. Time to read up on Euro I guess
Edit: Fuck I'm looking at diy cases now and I have a pelican case that would be perfect..

EHX cockfight works surprisingly well with synths. Filter, drive, and voltage starve (if I remember correctly) and it can get nasty.

This, it also works in true stereo (not sure if all, but the LFO/weird filter modes did).

IIRC it's an "SSM" chip that was used a lot in the late 70's into the 80's.

I'm in between a small Euro joint, like lfo + vcf or getting a synth with an audio in. Big filter sweeps will be on hold till more of my shtuff sells
