Re: New NIN
I have absolutely loved the past three NIN releases, but Bad Witch in particular is amazing. Still sounds like NIN to me, but they're branching out and doing new stuff that I really like. I still wish their North American tour had some dates in Canada. I'd love to see them again

Re: New NIN
I am mostly disappointed with this release, but Add Violence was a very high bar during a very low moment for me, so I am keeping that in mind. Relative listening.
Unless my opinion changes upon repeated spins, I'll just have to be content with loving 28 out of 32 Halo albums. And the new Juno Reactor, which is fucking great.

Re: New NIN
For me, it does take repeated spins for sure but it also helps to listen to all three albums in a row so you can take it in the way Trent intended it.
I think a lot of people are resistive to NIN changing but they don't remember that they have always changed. I mean, look at Pretty Hate Machine to the Downward Spiral. Totally fucking different. PHM was so simple and had so many hits but the tone of the record was completely different than TDS which was aggressive and angry and full of disdain for mankind, god and the like. The The Fragile comes out years later and it's once again an evolution of completely different music (almost on an orchestral level).
I think Trent's music takes a deeper appreciation of him as well as the music. I adore the man, so I love everything he puts out. I literally have never disliked anything he's made. I feel like he's a kindred spirit who thinks just like me, but that's how I identify with music, while others may just be looking for less meaning and more catchy tunes.
Music to me is heavily dependant on how you interpret the word. I know, I'm kind of getting a bit off the path of the thread here but, I feel the same way musically often. What I write doesn't always make sense and it doesn't fit a standard formula, so when I heard Bad Witch, I understood it because it's relatable to me on different levels. To each their own though! That's what's great about music. Everyone hears it differently even if we are all listening to the same exact song.

Boy I sure wish I was clever enough to understand this masterpiece that sounds a lot like other NIN music.

Re: New NIN
I don’t think it has anything to do with being clever. It’s just that I appreciate music for what it is. I didn’t used to though. 10 years ago I would have said I hated this. Just saying I don't think it's that big a shift for them, they've cut out the verse chorus thing and gone a bit more jammy. I don't hate it at all, just not finding it that inspiring.

Re: New NIN
I feel you. Out of the three albums they've released recently, this is my least favorite, but I still dig it enough to enjoy it. Trent doesn't do super ground breaking stuff, but I kind of like his vibe, so that's why I still follow and like.
