You see, the thing here is that you probably like your Epiphone because the QC happened to be better than other Gibsons you might have played. I've always been pretty shocked at the quality of most Gibsons I've picked up recently. They feel like crap.
This has been a long time coming. No tears from me on this one. I love my MIK Epiphone LP, but I'm really a Fender guy.

I just got a basically-never-played American professional Jaguar yesterday and it is freaking amazing (besides the bridge of course).MrNovember wrote:That could very well be true. Honestly, I'm also truely a Fender guy so I'll probably never bother to find out. Offsets for life

They should just ditch instruments altogether and move into the rocking chair business.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Re: Gibson files Chapter 11
The joke is that despite the haters, they're making damn good stuff. I LOVE my 2014 and pair of 2016s (so much that I got a second of the same exact year and model when they discontinued the studio version of the High Performance LP).
And their guitar business is still making bank.
It's the OTHER junk that tanked them.
(which is the same error Fender is going down, hiring the Disney store/Nike guy to run the show, and thus we get garbage like Fender Play and "maple everything")

With all the offset crazy, I bet they'd do good if they release different Firebirds at better prices.

Re: Gibson files Chapter 11
Bad news, buds:
Dear Friends:
Yesterday, we made a significant announcement that marks the next phase of Gibson’s long and storied history. We are re-focusing the Company on the manufacturing of world-class, iconic musical instruments and the continued development of the global Gibson brand, by reorganizing around its core businesses in the Musical Instruments segment. Gibson has reached a Restructuring Support Agreement with its majority stakeholders that clears the way for the continued financing and operations of the musical instruments business.
To implement the agreement, the Company filed today to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in Wilmington, Delaware. This will allow our Company to continue to design, build, sell and manufacture Gibson’s legendary guitars and instruments without interruption.
We are making every precaution to ensure normal operations for our valued customers. You will very likely not notice any change at all. There will be no change to inventory, pricing or quality of our guitars, musical instruments and Pro Audio. We intend to focus the same amount of time, money and energy in designing and building the best guitars, instruments and Pro Audio equipment that Gibson is known for.
As the Company moves through this process, which we will work to conclude as quickly as possible, there are several important facts you should know and understand about the Chapter 11 process:
• Gibson Brands is not going out of business. The legal process is being used to implement a reorganization of the Musical Instruments division, not liquidation.
• The filings do not change pricing, inventory, ordering or delivery timing of our guitars, musical instruments and Pro Audio equipment.
• There will be no change to the quality of service and support our customers have come to expect from us.
• There will be no changes to our warranty and customer service policies.
While we believe we have put all the right pieces in place to support normal business operations, this announcement may raise questions for you. Please be assured that our commitment to quality products, warranties and customer-service policies are not changing. (Guitar icon)
Sincerely,
Henry Juszkiewicz
Chairman and CEO of Gibson Brands

They'd probably end up buy a bunch of non-related furniture ventures, proclaim themselves a "Seating Lifestyle" company, and totally fuck that up as well.lost in music wrote:They should just ditch instruments altogether and move into the rocking chair business.

Well, I have to disagree here.
Fender Play keeps people interested in their new gear. Learning to play REALLY helps. And fender is focusing on catching and keeping NEW customers, in addition to serving the established base while Gibson is trying to wring more money out of the old-school customers. If you want to keep selling guitars in a world that is NO LONGER FOCUSED ON GUITAR as the primary means of music creation, you gotta meet people where they are.
Online. At school. At home. While being female. Half of fender's new sales last year were to women. They are marketing to young women and girls just as much as they are the boys, and offering lessons to everyone. So I see that it doesn't really apply to you, someone who already knows how to play and what they like, but you don't need to be marketed to with nearly the same focus, intensity, or regularity.
And last but not least, Maple forever, rosewood is farts.
