Fuzz face with voltage starve will get you close enough for rock and roll, as the saying goes. It's a great sound!!

I wish all fuzz had voltage starve. Some just respond by sh***ing the bed immediately but some get gorgeous.

I bought one of these for that kind of sound, I haven't received it yet though but it seems like it does that sound pretty good from this vid.

I'm still really curious about this one since the GX-210D doesn't have any clipping didoes...

Yeah I remember being surprised to learn the circuit is a Frankenstein of basic stuff, because the total sound is somehow greater than its parts. But I think you're going to have a lot of fun with a starving fuzz face. Ram it with a middy overdrive!

My favorite Neil Young tones are on the Deadman sdtk. I can get close running a de7 and rv7 on plate into a mini. I like the Crazy Horse, but it has impedence issues if you don't run it last in your chain.

If you like the Deadman ST, check out the soundtrack to Only Lovers Left Alive. Jim Jarmusch is a surprisingly good guitarist and does the bulk of that soundtrack with a blown trio called Squrl. Also Dr. Carlson Albion (Dylan Carlson from Earth) did the ST to an indie-neo-western called Gold that's in the same vein.

I think any delay/reverb combo into a blown out tweed/starved fuzz pedal (or better yet, an actual blown out tweed) will get you into that territory. I'm really into the bass response on the F55 though.

+1 on that. I did find though that it worked better with the fuzz into the overdrive (at least in my setup)
the trick is to find the right balance between the 2. to have the overdrive choke a bit on the signal coming from the fuzz, while also filtering all the harsh treble

Depending on what amp you have, smacking it with the fuzz face might be all you need
