This is a case where a little knowledge is worse than none. You have the general idea that something needs to be measured but you don't know what so the measurements you take are unlikely to help you. You can check to see if there are test points on the PCB but a voltage measurement will usually come from the wiper of the pot and the other lead will connect to ground. If its a clock trim you would need to use a frequency counter.

What are you adjusting? What is the specific pedal and do you know what the trim controls?
