A DS-1 was bundled with my first guitar (purchased off of a forum). I sold it 2-3 years later, because I never used it. I received a Tuna Melt as a Christmas gift some time later. The first pedals I bought for myself were a 90s Polychorus & a 70s Stereo Memory Man with the hardwired cord. A 90s Micro Synth, Vox Repeat Percussion module, a 70s Surf/Tornado wah, a V1 Small Stone, and a Sherman Filterbank 2 were some of the most-noteworthy acquisitions of the first 3.5 years. All my friends had 1 or 2 pedals, which were usually bypassed (Vox Wah, Sovtek Muff, Soundtanks, Cool Cat Chorus, Fabtone). Being the friend with 8 FX units in 2002 was about like having 300 pedals today.

It's a DS-1.
Everyone's first pedal purchase was a DS-1, and any other answer is a lie.

Has been on every single board I've had since I started collecting pedals.

Well, my "lie" is that the first pedal I purchased was a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus soon after I received the Crybaby. My Peavey Rage had distortion so I didn't grok the need for dirt pedals for a while. I started in the late 80s, so fuzzes were still a very fringe thing and the pedal business was a more contained thing of a few generally largeish corporate players pitching mostly mainstream flavors. And the conventional wisdom was that dirt and OD pedals were a kludge for people who didn't spring for a Boogie or Soldano. It was a very different time.

Still have the spiffy wooden box it came with, too.

Hell yea, that's like the one I had. Didn't get the cool box though

BOSS DD-5 I got in 1996. I had tons of fun sitting in front of my amp and tweaking the time and repeat knobs. Still have it and it's still my favorite digital delay.

The first individual pedals I bought were the Zoom Ultra Fuzz and the Guyatone Flip Vintage Tremolo, both of which were on clearance at AMS for like $60 each.

TU-2. Crazy, rite!?
I’ve got a flip tremolo carcass in my box of busted gear- they don’t take kindly to DC... tube was a gimmick but the throb was real.

Danelectro Fab Tone (the metal red one). I think it was 96 or so. Cost me around 75 bucks, which was a pretty penny. That was my ONLY pedal for a long, long time. It got me what I wanted.
