A Tone Machine with the octave on into an Ear Claire Thunder with the tonestack disengaged was probably the gnarliest (bass) fuzz sound I ever personally achieved.

Green Ringer or Ampeg Scrambler>Mantic Flex XS

Guitar with two pickups on and out of phase, knobs at max with the pickups out of phase->Frederic Electronics Super Unpleasant Companion with both knobs at max, Super Fuzz Tone 2 setting->Pro Co Deucetone Rat, both channels on the Turbo Rat Circuit (well into fuzz territory). Distortion at max, volume to taste, filter at 1:00 on both channels->Germanium Fuzz Face mimicking the D+ Greg Sage setting (max volume, min distortion)-> Tube Amp with a little drive, boost off if applicable, Bass at 3, Mids at 5, Treble at 7.

As boring as it is, the Bearfoot Pink Purple Fuzz was able to handle just about anything thrown at it; benders, muffs, buzzarounds. Didn't really change the character of the fuzz before it; just kind of brought out more of the fuzz.
