They made 5 string Rics from the 80's to the early 2000s in very limited runs, they are super collectible and I haven't seen one go for under 3000 in 10 years..
You can buy one here in all it uber badassness

Yeah Al uses the five string pretty much only for the Advaitic Songs stuff.
Fuck, I can finally bro out with jwar about something!
Dude, the State of Non Return sound is great, but I highly recommend you get you ears around Conference of the Birds and Variations on a Theme as quickly as possible.

You can distinctly hear the tone change from Pilgrimage to God is Good switching from Matamp/Buttpussy to SVTs.

Yeah it’s not a bad thing at all, but there is certainly a difference.

You also gotta play like Geezer, fingers picking right at the neck joint.

Cracks Knuckles.
The State of Non-Return fuzz is a 250 (which is his classic dirt) with a suboctave (the HOG). The DS-1 is all knobs on 10 going to a guitar amp, usually (back in the good old days it was usually a Marshall or a Marshall Clone) for extra high end. Amps are usually dependent on venue/continent, but when I saw them on first east coast leg supporting Adavatic Songs, Cisneros was using a solid state Ampeg Portaflex and an SVT. I think the last time I saw them (2014?) he had the same rig.
It does sound way different than the classic albums but it's still nice -- they haven't really been a wall of amps band for like 10 years at this point -- pretty much when Haikus left and Rob Lowe came in with the additional instrumentation, although the 2009 tours still had a pretty bitchin' backline... even then it was still DOD250 + DS-1.
Sidebar I can't believe their last record (not counting Al's solo stuff and the Live Europe LP) is five years old. Hopefully the new Sleep record is good.

I remember not loving that last OM record when it came out but that track is not bad.... maybe I should revisit it.
I love those Cisneros dub 7”s tho

Does he use the Ric-o-Sound to split for different amps or some sort of pedal?

So I tuned up to the tuning I read he uses. LOL!!! I tried to up tune my D string to a G# and didn't even think about the possibility of a string break. When I down tuned to the G# the tension was too flabby, so naturally I up tuned. Face fucking palm big time. The highest tension you can go is a G and that's high. String broke right after getting it up to almost a G#. Hahahahaha. I'm so fucking stupid man.
So, I messed around with alternate tuning a bit but couldn't get to where I wanted. So, an octave pedal is a must. However, how in the fuck do you get one to actually give you a true octave up and sound natural? Maybe a Pog 2 is the only way? I don't know. The H9 sounds fucking fake and does not track well. So, for now, I'm just tuning to standard cello tuning and going to put flats on for the tension issue (when down tuning).
Unless someone has a better suggestion?
I'm also trying to get the timing down on that song. It's a bit odd, but I think I can get it if I keep at it. It's hard to look at someone else's interpretation of something and go with it.
Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback guys!
I do like Sleep as well.

haha I actually made a pedal called the Cisneros Tone Generator, it was a DS1, DOD250, and JFET clean blend in a single box all in paralle so you can mix any of those 3 signals together to create 1 bass OD tone.

That still doesn't doesn't get you that ric strongyness that only rics have... Sorry only answer my s to get a ric.. And then if you need another tuning you'll just have get another.. And another....
This is 100% true.
This exchange inspired me to listen to one of my favorite albums (SPARKS - Kimono My House). The bass player achieved a notable sound solely using the rick.
Also...this will always ROCK!!! Rick bases sound so good!!!

Ricks sound good but I fucking hate the necks on them. I've played several over the years and I just cannot swing that boat neck. It's the only thing that's prevented me from ever pursuing one. My hands are too small for that.
