I recommend giving it a go etching it mirrored (the insides of the mouth/eyes and band around the numbers would be etched) - I think it would retain the look of the logo better... try one and see.

You can see what I mean with this Mortal Kombat Logo Brett made for me - I think the one on the right looks more like the original logo.

Just an idea. It probably look cool both ways.

Reverse could be pretty cool. I'd love to see it if you could do both.
