I've had a Plumbutter 2 for quite a while and had some trouble getting down with it as a ruined drum machine. Double Knot does exactly what I THOUGHT Plumbutter 2 would do - be an insane patchable drum box. Playing Double Knot actually got me to take out the Plumbutter 2 again and make some rad stuff. Like, the Double Knot taught me how to use the Plumbutter in some ways.

Aside from that, it sounds fantastic, gets incredibly weird, and doesn't make me want to pull my hair out. It can do weird beats or normal beats. It can make a bass line. The tempo knob goes to infinity. It's one of the top instruments, to me.

DRONE COMMANDER + drum machines sounds like awesome territory to be in.
I think I find it difficult to sound good with my other gear. The tonality of the double knot is almost identical to the tetrax so they clash quite a lot. It's also difficult to have it accompany something melodic (which I barely ever do) and tweak without it sounded awkwardly off key. I did get a good one done with my multicassa though.
Got any recordings online? Would love to hear some. Actually I feel like I follow you on instagram.
Drone commander + drums EP coming out later this year. :snax:
This is Double Knot, Multicassa, Monotribe + something I don't remember: https://soundcloud.com/david-b-applegat ... les-street

I haven't had much trouble with the Double Knot playing well with others but I also use it primarily as a percussion machine instead of a drone or pad machine.

I'll look forward to your EP!

It's fine, keep at it! This is exciting for me to watch.

This thread is like a 'youth center' where the troubled avant-garde kids can play.

Or it can be 'drama club' where we do a rendition of RENT with instruments with unconventional interfaces.

I used to get really drunk back in the day and try to mash up songs from RENT with MERZBOW...

The E-mail from SOMA sent in me into a black hole and now my youtube diet is the exact same as what I was into around this time last year...
Live performance from Vlad (LYRA designer)...

Vlad has another instrument in development. 'THE PIPE'. Video here and if you read the comments, it looks like there are plans to build a LYRA with a keyboard.

Also, feel free to post other 'less conventional' electronic instruments in this thread. I know there has been interest in the Grackler (maybe just Dermo & me?). Sound clips are sounding interesting. Takes audio in now.

Nothing but respect for Martin, I have a Horndog and love it. I think $600 is pretty steep for that (not that I don't think it cost that much to make).

Lastly, going through my old E-mails, I offered to by this off Vlad around this time last year  (I still want it, but he sold it )

Yeah, that GRACKLER looks rad. It's 600$, though? That's too rich for my blood at the moment but still a beautiful device. I, too, rock a Horndog and it rips everything to shreds and is my sweatie.

I don't use mine a lot but I would NEVER apart with it. It's a great utility and I enjoy it as its own instrument. Kind of a palette cleaner.

Again, I get 'why' the Grackler is $600 but to put it in perspective, my KORG ARP (really all my synths and 6/7 of my guitars) was less than that. So, it's kind of like a 'thanks but no thanks' (may have said that in my E-mail to him) deal.

Thinking hard about getting on the list..........really wish the 4 had the Ext In. I don't really need all the 8 offers, but that Ext In to throw pedals into it is so crucial...

Aarrgghhhh

My horndog arrived today! :!!!: Can't wait to destroy some analog drums with it when I get home. Also crosspatching with tetrax + double knot :p

I think the grackler is going to be a seriously powerful and useful (now with the external inputs) instrument. No offence to Martin, because he clearly makes some really innovative stuff, but I have always felt his demos are kind of lacking, I mean even now if you try find Horndog recordings they're pretty few and far between, and the ones on his site are kinda meh. This thing however, put in the right hands sounds like it's going to be insane!
I think $600 is kinda in-line with things like macumbista blippoo box and benjolins, this instrument definitely shares ideas with those design, as well as C-L stuff.
All I really want right now is a stereo multimode filter with banana cv patch points to interface with my other banana shiz. If anyone can make that happen, I'll buy the damn thing right now.

In other news apparently the new drone commander pedals are now orderable.
