Liking this thread. These have always been appealing to me. As I think about getting a synth someday I struggle with the reality that I am not a proper keyboard player, just a noise maker. Programming sequences in a Volca Bass and/or FM would sync great to my other gear.

This is why I'm torn about the beats. That and I like the idea of a little more sequencing power. Torn between a volca beats and a drumbrute. More power vs tiny and minimal...

I've heard that the the output used on the Volcas creates problems because it is dual mono. How do Volca users here connect the devices with other equipment? Is a special adapter/cable required?

I love the volcas, the kick is by far my favorite and definitely the most under appreciated of the line. It's the most fun performance wise. The FM is just amazing as a pocket FM synth and sounds decent enough. The beats is used least, mainly for motion sequencing the glitch sounds. The kick of the beats pales compared to the "kick's" kick and the snare is little more than flicking an empty chip bag.
I've been thinking about getting a Kick at one point. It seems rad to have the kick separately. I think it would go quite well with a sample, am I wrong?

My favorite Volca is the Monotribe.

...Volca FM incoming, though, so that could knock my boy back down to 2nd favorite Volca.

I'm sorry but every single time I see your user name I read it as mr. soy boy king. I just can't. LOL! It's not your fault, it's ILF.

Anyone have these eye slip ups??

Hahahaha

Oh definitely! Don't write the kick off as just a kick though. It's more of an analog mono synth that can go complete sub or do fucking bird noises. Quantized rolls/stabs and push of the button pitch shifting, 1 and 2 octave+ random pitch.

I chain my FM to my Ambika so while I'm doing some down and dirty Moog style low-pass, I get nice glassy FM or whatever I want on top of it. Really fantastic combo.

I had the Beats for a hot minute but felt too limited there and honestly didn't like the sounds all that much. I'm a picky loser.

I had a midi-modded monotribe and it really does have an awesome sound, especially when you dirty it up. It sucks that the outputs were noisy and it only had one oscillator. If it had 2, I'd probably never have sold it.

I have an FM & Bass, and really enjoy them (esp the FM). I sold my Beats bc I didn't really like the house-y sound, but the three of them together were a lot of fun.
Still lusting for a Volca Sample tho. I have tons of microsamples of guitar & I've been dreaming of doing The Books-type sequencing, and that seems like a great platform to do it on. I hate the sequencer on my SP404, but the Volca sequencing is pretty sweet. Plus automation... ugh GAS kicking in.

I've got a beats and I half love it. The immediacy and performance are great but not all the sounds are that good. Might replace with a sample because I love how convenient the size and interface are.

I use mine with amps, pedals, interface, modular, never had a problem with a regular cable.

All y'all are hating on the sounds of the Volca beat?

What specifically are you talking about? I've never heard a drum machine that sounds REAL.
