And it's gone, what a shame I had such high hopes. Oh well the hunt continues.

There're plenty of other builders who build stuff you'd probably like. They've probably got better reputations as well.
Hope you find something great sounding.

I'm not sure I totally understand what you're after, but I had better luck with a Dunn Effects Green Priest for the OrMat preamp tone goal.
Dude explained it to me as a jfet version of a Matamp GT120 preamp circuit. Pretty dark sounding and not a lot of control with the EQ, but it gets "that" sound and you could probably buy two for what that Midnight fetched
Dunwich also makes a DA120 that probably kills for that purpose as well.

Special low-frequency version.

There's also EQD's Monarch (I built one for a bud and he loves it), which probably isn't too far away from the Green Priest.
If you're really desperate to get something from Australia, there's this guy.

I like the way that thing looks, but I think I'm going to avoid Australian pedal makers for a while.
The Monarch is interesting as well as the Wampler cataPulp I have been looking into both of them. The Green Priest looks neat but I don't see any around for sale.
Also checking out the Tech 21 SansAmp Oxford

You could also just save up and get an OrMat?

Oh shit I don't know why I never thought of that....D.o.S. wrote:You could also just save up and get an OrMat?
Oh yeah it's because a broke ass touring musician buying an amp for the road that costs as much as a small car seems like a shit decision.
I have a few nice guitars and amps that I would never tour with, because shit gets fucked up on the road. I travel with a pair of Beta Leads that have never let me down which can't be said for the long list of amps that came before them.
It's also why me pedal board is populated mostly with pedals that I can walk into almost any guitar shop and find for under $100.

You could also try out the Orange Bax pedal pre-amp they released a year or so ago.
