They can get expensive for sure. It is an investment though. I plan to use mine as urns when I get cremated so I can be played at my funeral :thumb:

You can just use junk. Anything that'll make a sound when struck, scraped, bowed, whatever'll do.

A little bit more difficult to find something that'll sing like a bowl, but it can happen. :snax:

Yeah the antiques are not cheap. They are antiques.

There are quality contemporary bowls being produced that aren't so crazy expensive, but you are still talking about an instrument hammed by hand from molten metal so yeah $$$. There are also tons of cheapo bowls on Amazon or whatever chakra.com site you prefer. I think most of these are machined. You definitely want to be able to listen before you buy. They're all quite different, some way more complex than others.

Nora, I wonder if we can get your ashes vibrating cymatics-style. "Yeah, it's sad, but she's vibrating with the universe now"

^^^ Cool Tracks. There is a store uptown here that sells the chakra drums. Every time my wife goes in to buy soap she has to drag me out as they are sooooo fun to play. Always thought it would be rad to run through a pedal board. Can't convince her it would be a solid investment.

Bowl experts: can you change the pitch of a bowl?
I've seen ppl add water but I actually am accumulating a bunch of phone ringer bells where I can add water to them.

Had to google chakra drums. So basically a cool steel drum "for chakras" They look really nice but why do they have to call it that? I'm so over the chakra-fication of everything, and it hits too close to home with the bowls, where you have to wade through endless amounts of the fluffiest of uber-generic, no-effort, watered down, new-new-age, pseudo-chakra spirituality to find good information.

Ask me how I really feel

No offense to your post and/or chakra drums. Banging on shit is fun. :animal:

Putting water in them does change the pitch. You can also do a cool little hand-wah thing with them.
