I can recommend the Small Stone (never tried the Bad Stone) and my favourite is the KORG FK-2 Mr. Multi (vintage and rather expensive pedal).

BOSS PH-2 with piano? Well, I didn't like that one too much. The PH-2 offers 10-stage and 12-stage phasing and in my opinion the best piano/phaser sound can be achieved with a classic 4-stage phaser (if you crave for that typical '70s sound). I also like the BOSS PH-3, despite the fact that it is a digital pedal. Some multi effects sound ace as well.

The SolidGold Apollo is a really good phaser on keys with a lot more tweakability. Out of the budget, but there's a 1st generation one up on Reverb for $165. Cool looking too.

Just my opinion, but phaser on a rhodes is pretty limiting. it makes sense if you need it to do specific songs that use that sound. but personally i'd much rather have a good trem or vibrato. not sure if that's helpful, but as a rhodes player i couldn't help myself.

I got him a trem a couple years ago, but a vibrato is a good idea too, I hadn't thought of that. Any recommendations for one?

I thought the UV300 was really crappy with keyboards. (Behringer's take on a VB-2)

TC Electronic has that Tail Spin coming out, which is likely an improved take on the UV300. ($59)

The BBE Mind Bender wasn't particularly impressive (not bad, but not something that grabs you).

I'd go back to the Viscous Vibe, as one of the better modulation options for a Rhodes in the $80 and below range.

Pitch vibrato or univibe style vibrato?

Yeah the Viscous Vibe is not a bad idea. I have one and with the Toneprint thingy you can use its third setting as a few varieties of vibrato, chorus, or flanger. Originally I thought it best to get him a rock solid analog machine but maybe he would enjoy that better.
