You could just get and mod a danelectro spring king? You'd have a real spring reverb, weird multi delay sounds, and whatever grindy fuzz sound you wanted (depending on what dirt you pair it with)?

All combined it could easily come in under $300?

Or maybe I'll just strip the paint. Or spray paint it black. I've heard mixed things about it. And that footswitch looks awfully prone to breakage.

I'm sure rehousing/repainting could be done? It'd still be pretty big and unless you want that super jarring reverb POP whenever you stomp on the switch you'd want to switch to electronic relay "soft-switching". It definitely sounds worth it:

i've always had nice results with my delays (either slapback or long and messy) and reverbs feeding into a tafm, having the clean blend at unity while the fuzz is mixed in a bit lower to taste. that way all of the the trailing repeats get a fuzzy character to them but it doesn't take over the whole signal

Honestly it doesn't sound like you want a spring verb dude. The ones you seem to be into are far from spring. If however you do, I just got a Sceaming Fx Uverbia from Jack Nelson (Dropping Acid) and that thing is fucking killer. It's big as shit though. LOL.

The new Source Audio Ventris could be something to save for that will kick the shit out off all verbs out there. It's going to be 300 I believe, but endless options dude with the Neuro App. If you haven't, seriously give it a hard look.

I used to have a Uverbia! It was probably my favorite reverb pedal ever.

I had a RM1N and a DBA reverberation machine, wound up keeping the reverberation machine and selling the RM1N. I really miss the RM1N and it was more versatile but for a dedicated grimy reverb the DBA was simpler and is fantastic and fun as well. The DBA does exactly what you describe as the springy slapback thing at higher settings. Theres also some weird compression and subtle modulation in there that is really subtle yet interesting and musical. There is definitely quite a difference in the bright/dark settings but I find both in a good place, I think of the bright one as the spring setting and the dark one as the plate setting.

I miss the crazy delayed crashing fuzz sound the RM1N did with the pre and post gain up. The dirt in the DBA pedal is pretty strange and not really overdrive-ish or fuzz-ish...more signal degradation but can sound overdrivey with something boosting it.

The only reason I don't have an RM 1N is I cannot stand the clicking it made when the post gain was up (I believe it was post). It is something wonky with the belton brick that annoys the shit out of me. I just cannot stand pedals that have noise to them. Drives me fucking nuts.

Hm, just randomly came across this in Premier Guitar and it sounded interesting. Belton, fx loop. Samples sound cool. Seems like lots of fun could be had.

I mean Andrew used to do RM-1N's with post gain switches, which sounds like exactly what you're looking for, and what you really want. Second to that though I'll throw another vote in for a Holy Grail. I've also been able to get some surprisingly RM-1N like sounds out of the Bitquest reverb, never tried his standalone reverbs but I imagine they're probably pretty similar, which could be a decent option.

My rm-1n actually had a post gain switch. I never took into account the volume boost I would get when turning it on. Made it basically unusable to me. I just left the switch on all the time haha.

The RM-1N is amazing on its own. It could be the foundation of my sound. But it eats up anything you run into it which is, admittedly, part of the charm, but makes it hard to integrate with other effects.

It did have some really cool interactions with my dirt though. I remember running a driving notion into it and expecting insane abrasive high end, but something about the circuit caused it to mellow out and turn into a volume swell effect. Fucking weird. Highly recommended combo if you have both pedals.

Anyways, I think I'm gonna end up going with some kind of Belton verb and just running it before dirt.
