It depends on what you want to do. You want a standalone synth that you can control with the microbrute?

I'd go for Erebus or 0-Coast to compliment the Microbrute. Both would integrate well with the little patchbay on the Micro. Erebus got 2 osc's, 2 env's, etc and generally more bang for the buck compared to the 0-Coast, it also sounds real different to the Micro. 0-Coast is cool, but somewhat limited, so you'd have to really like it's sound I guess.

0-coast isn't any more limited than the others, it's just less traditional and open. It is more of the "everything is a voltage at it's base" philosophy than the other subtractive synths.

Filters and the second oscillator are replaced with waveshapers. The lfo is replaced by the way more powerful slope generator. It has a random and a tap tempo clock.

It's just different.

If you like the moog/subtractive side, go dreadbox/dark energy (I would lean more doepfer on this one). If you want more integration with external signals like guitar, go ms-20 or small euro rack. Want a cheap way to start getting waveshapers and into west coast (more percussive and patch specific) go 0-coast or small eurorack.

I think ms-20 and 0-coast are the top of those.

If you like the drone commander sound and want that filter around, go drone commander.

All have their pros and cons.

But a waveshaper is not a second oscillator nor is it a filter. It's useful sure, but I still feel like the Erebus has more options. Paraphony, 2 actual VCO's. an actual VCF, etc. But yes, it depends on what you wanna get out of the respective synths and what your personal preferences are. The 0-Coast is definitely capable of some more interesting and out-there timbres, than your typical subtractive synth is. I was just saying what I'd do.

Hm, the 0-Coast actually has a lot more patch points than I thought.

It's also one of the highest rated on modular grid.. Maybe the o-coast and erebus have something the M-32 don't (I'm not an expert at all in synths so I don't know much about specs) but it really seems like a good choice to me.

Listening to that first demo now, and it sounds insanely good (although he's obviously using some more stuff on there, it doesn't have 2 VCO's does it? and no reverb/delay).

M32 feels like the deluxe microbrute, but it doesn't fix any of my "problems" with it (getting real weird timbres or paraphony or even a second vco). For the price of a m32 I could buy a dreadbox nyx.

But it does sound great :v

You're right about that. mother-32 is actually cheaper than NYX but more expensive than erebus.. but yeah

I'm currently using the Microbrute, Drumbrute, Microgranny, and the small bit of euro that I decided to keep. I also have a Mother 32 on the way and the Folktek Mescaline when it's ready. And I am planning on picking up a 0-Coast. So I guess my recommendation is all of them? Although, I still haven't really decided if I want to keep the Microbrute. I kind of feel the same way as Vidret and I'm pretty sure with everything else I have, or have on the way, it might be a bit redundant.

It sounds like you want something with presets? All of the previously mentioned synths are probably going to give you the same problem the microbrute does: finding those sweet spots and not wanting to move the knobs because you don't want to have to find your way back to that sweet spot. I've also heard the O-Coast can't be physically mounted in a eurorack case, and I think it runs at a different voltage than your microbrute?

I don't think the synth you want is eurorack one based on what you're saying. I think you ought to get a minilogue, you'd have presets, polyphony, and a nice buttery synth. It's not as compact, but it is pretty. Sonically I think the two would pair nicely.

Or, get the mother 32, it'll give you an extra voice to play with and it requires no external sequencing. Plus, you can route the microbrute and mother 32 together and get weirdly intermodulated melodies going at the same time.

Also, the SV-1 isn't paraphonic unless you want to bring in another sequencer/controller specifically for the second oscillator

Yeah you can't rack an 0-Coast very easily.
