and with that. you can find beatup ampeg 8x10s for as cheap as ~$300.
It costs as much as it weighs!

Here you can usually get a Peavey 2x15 for $100.

Yeah I'm really hanging on for a cheap peavey 2x15. Can't find any this month. I've always like the sound of 15's better than 10's. There are a few ampeg fridges for pretty cheap in my area but I live up three flights of super old narrow stairs so I just can't do it.

a word of warning. those peavey 2x15s are easily 2/3rds the weight of the ampeg and a lot harder to move around.

Yeah I would not get a PV2x15 if "portability" was a thing I cared about.

I think some combination sounds ideal, like 4x10 and 1x15. Oomph.

The classic Ampeg 810 cab is surprisingly easy to move thanks to the big-ass grab handle and fixed casters on the back edge. Yeah, they're heavy but you almost never have to pick one up by main force.
I have a fridge style cab here (SVT1540HE with 4x10 and 1x15) that usually stays home. When I play out I use two SVT115E cabs because I prefer the larger drivers and they fit in my ride a lot better. It's easier to load in / out with the bigger cab, though. It rolls a hell of a lot better, even up and down stairs. Especially down stairs. Thump, thump, thump, thump.
I've owned and played a lot of tuck n' roll Kustom gear and it's cool but not super loud. If you're playing bass through that cab I'd really recommend getting some heavier-duty speakers. It'll be fine for guitar, though.

My opinon is limited but I'll offer it.
Kustom cabs are kind of crummy from what I've heard. I've never dug them.
If you want loads of low end, get a Markbass cab.
If you want some high fi and modern sound, get a Mesa Powerhouse (they are the fucking best).
That old school and killer tone, Ampeg.
Don't get a Gallien Krueger unless it's an older cab. In my experience, the new ones are poorly made shit.
Peavey is good as well for the price. I had an ENORMOUS 2x15 cab by Peavey at one point and blew it to hell with a Crate head (it was a 1000 watt power amp). I didn't know anything about impedance or shit back then. Until it blew up, it sounded magical.
The only brands I'm turned off by are the cheap shit ones like Kustom.
Also, Jack (Dropping Acid) has a hand built cab by someone, can't remember who, and it's fucking amazing. Made me want one so bad.

I used to have an older peavey 2x15 and it wasn't all that bad to move around. Maybe I'm just being a wimp. Its not like I'm gigging all the time anyway.
There's an ampeg 8x10 for $250 in my area.
That's a lotta speakers for the price I suppose
A pair of smaller cabs is probably a good choice tho. Anybody used mojotone cabs? This one is for sale for 250. The speaker is 300watts but the seller doesn't know what kind it is.
This bad dad is $119 with a 400 watt eminence loaded in it. Would just have to keep my cat away from the carpet.
I've seen a few of those ampeg 1x15s around. What would be a good price for one? I saw one with a damaged grill cloth for like 189 I think?

HOLY FUCK DUDE! If that 8x10 works well and has no issue, snatch it the fuck up! 250 is an insane price! They are at least 1k new! I'd snatch that up if it was near me. FUCK. I love those cabs.
The GK you showed there is my old one (not literally obviously), and they are great as well.

On the Austin craigslist there are 5 different 2x15s. Sunn, Traynor, Fender x2, and a Kustom.
But I agree DoS and Jwar and would get that Ampeg. You could always sell it when a Peavey comes along.
