I just watched a Reverb video on the TU-3 if anyone would like to come over and mercifully euthanize me.

Having a powered buffer installed in a VPJR is generally not terribly expensive.

Lehle. Got sick of fixing/junking EBs and liked the size and feel better than the Goodriches and Hiltons I've played.

I could never justify $250 for a volume pedal.

I got it from Prymaxe on like a 25% off sale, was just just over 200. Will never have to replace a pot or string again and it has a really good adjustable buffer/boost while still being less expensive than some other high end volumes, especially the pedal steel-tier stuff. Plus it looks like a sweet piece of something you'd see on a PBS Special in 1972 and is a great size size for my ridiculous feet. I figure with the money and time I've sunk into EBs over the years, 200ish bucks ain't bad for something way more reliable with some nice perks.

I've never had an issue with the build quality on my VPJRs. I've been using one of them for 13 or so years and it has never broken once. The other I've probably had 10 or 11 years, also without issue. Both have been on multiple tours and seen heavy use in the mid-to-late 00s (with significantly less use in the last three or four years). Maybe I'm just lucky?

I definitely experienced significant volume and tone loss using the EBVP jr. I haven't tried anything else. I only needed a volume pedal for a one off project I was doing. I like the idea of having one, but I'm not willing to sacrifice all that. And I don't need one enough to justify a $200+ price tag. If there was a cheaper decent option out there, I'd certainly consider it.

If you already have a VPJR, just get someone to install a buffer in it. It should cost no more than $50, and will fix those issues.

Does running a boost as an always on pedal function the same as a buffer? I have a SHO clone always on, wondering if I need a buffer as I add an EB VP Jr today.

edit: went to the store for the VP jr, they were out of stock but managed to sell me a dunlop volume(x). It seemed smooth enough and the prospect of using as an expression pedal as well were tempting. took it home, plugged everything in, and hated it. Nothing against the pedal, just hated the sensation of using my foot in that manner to control the volume. I thought I would love it immensely. Now I can return it and know that I would rather stick to my volume knob

i have a LEHLE, too, and i LOVE it.

the cost is high, yes...but considering how many volume pedals i've gone through over the years (multiple EB's both full size & jr, goodrich, multiple Morleys, FX17, the little AMT, BOSS, more that i'm sure i'm forgetting...), finding one i wouldn't need to replace in 6 months was worth it. mine gets used & abused constantly & it has never had the slightest issue/crackle/anything. i love the sweep of it. i recommend it without reservation.
