The quilter does a pretty good job, weighs nothing and had waaaaay more clean headroom than the superlead, which was an adjustment!

This was because I got sick of carrying the marshall up and down the stairs at our rehersal place. For gigs its still the marshall (with the quilter for back up)
The Quilter is the ultimate backup. It doesn't sound quite as good as the best tube amps, but it's easy to get lazy because you won't throw your knee out taking it down a flight of steps like my V4 did. It doesn't punch quite as hard as my borrowed Acoustic 150, which has an itermittent short, but has a clangy midrange spike that will let everyone know that you're not fucking around. But the Quilter has much better breakup. Nowadays, if I need more than 2 power tubes, I go solid state. If I want tube sounds, I'll run my Pro Tube 30 as a preamp. Sounds better than all but the best-maintainted tube amps.

+1 On the Traynor Bassmaster, too. They're one of those amps where people freak out about whether it sounds like a Marshall or not when it sounds better than about 90% of Marshalls (and in my opinion, sounds better if it hasn't received those Marshall mods).

If I could find a YBA-3 again I'd definitely be into that. I loved my YBA-1 but it was way too quiet for us even with a sensitive cab.

If we're both talking about the YBA-1 version that's *just* 45oish watts, I can see how you'd lack a bit of headroom in a stadium...But I can't imagine how you'd survive a normal rehearsel/jam situation with a YBA-1 without good ear plugs

Granted, the volume dial -as in a lot of amps- is a bit deceiving. Most of of the volume is in the first half of the volume control, from there on it's mostly just extra crunch. Still though, a 100Watt plexi might give you a little more punch/bite/whatever, but in sheer volume you'd win only a couple actual db's, no? :idk:

YBA-1 is really loud for most of situations (mic'ed situations) but it might fall a little bit short for noisy music, specially un mic'ed basement shows when a drummer really needs to hit the drums like a man.

It's both of those+headroom with bass vi, 50 watts just isn't enough ass

How about a wall of Bassman Ten Combos? Those have plenty of ass and 2 or 3 of them would really add up. Plus signature look.

Your Butcher can do edge of breakup if you use the lo gain input and are sure to wear earplugs.

I'm actually picking one of those up in like a week.

I used it at practice today and on the high gain with the pre down to like 4 and the post up around 6 it was pretty perfect. I'm gonna try and get my plexi and V4 fixed and I should be selling my Classic 400 soon, so I might just try and get a verellen or science with the money from that+taxes just to try out. I also need to try new pickups and strings in the tele vi I built because im getting this weird loss of clarity. I'm thinking hot rails and a powertron or 59 in the neck.

are your pickups setup properly?

Yeah the guitar has been set up and adjusted really well, I've found most Quarter pounders have an issue wih the d & g strings sounding clear and even on 6 strings. I need to try something with staggered poles

Peavey VTM 120? :snax:
If the VTM 60 is good enough for Scott in KWC, I'd think the 120 should be more than enough.

ah, that's not too surprising then. seymour duncan pups can be really inconsistent. not to mention you can't really adjust the pole heights on those pickups.

Butcher is a VTM without the switches. I've owned a VTM, but I like the butcher a lot better. I think new pickups are in order first, and I'm picking up that bassman 10 for my guitarist to use. So I might switch to like a 50w JMP? I still think 100 is necessary for bass frequencies in drop c# though

Yeah Duncan's are rad for the price but they honestly have a bunch of drawbacks compared to higher end stuff. I definitely need something with adjustable poles or rails for bass vi I think.
