Yeah it's basically like an octave fuzz, but just really gnarly and splatty. I have an vintage one and have always wanted to compare it side by side to the reissues that were around not too long ago. I did play one of the reissues... sounded rad, maybe a little tamer? That's not necessarily a bad thing, as a smidge of manageability would probably be pretty handy with these things

Oooh ... that's a good one I forgot, though I can achieve similar textures cascading my Maxon Void into various Muff-ish fuzzes.

It's a great circuit! I don't know what's in it, but it has tons of definition. Possibly related to a fuzz face because it gets brighter as you roll off the volume. I really want to get a Mastotron, but for some reason, I just got a Hoof. When I'm done with my usual Muff cycle of love and hate, I'll get a Mastotron to go with my Fuzzolo. The worst thing about the Fuzzolo is that it doesn't have a gain control, so if your guitar volume knob skills are lacking (as mine are) you can't get the most out of it. Mastotron would fix that, as would a volume pedal. The best thing about the Fuzzolo is that I keep finding uses for it. I think, "I can't play doom on it, it sounds like a kazoo!" or "I can't play rhythm parts on it, it's too slow." But it always seems to work out great.

Does it have a lot of gain?

If I was to buy any fuzz ever right now it would probably be a pretty years, it can sound like almost anything

Ton of gain. With the waveform knob all the way to left, it sounds a little like a Bender that cleans up like a Fuzz Face, and it's nicest with the volume knob of your guitar backed off. But unlike a Bender or Fuzz Face, it prefers to be the sole dirt into a relatively clean amp, and it sounds awesome that way. With the waveform knob all the way to the right, it's insanely gated, so "tons of gain" kind of loses its meaning because sometimes you can't hear any sound at all. In the middle, it totally cuts through anything without hurting your ears.

I also want a Harmonic Percolator. That one seems like kind of a universe unto itself.

There was a LOT of variability in the vintage ones (even before another couple of decades of drift kicked in) - I played some that were boring, some that were amazing. I'm happy with my RI, even moreso now that I can run it parallel with a Scrambler.

My custom-mangled Test Pattern From Hell though is the only thing I can't get out of another box in my arsenal, or at least a close emulation or in the ballpark.

If I had to pick *one*, that'd be it.

And then use some standard, boring dirtbox for everything else.

Voltage starve Test Pattern plus additional noise and chaos switches....is a thing of ugly beauty.
