This. Spread a wide net and take it all with a pinch of salt.

I will say I dig Mike Hermans for delays and mod demos. He gets a lot of h8 for being cheesy, but his phrasing at times actually reminds me of old school videogame OSTs. Which is still cheesy, I guess, but in a rad way.

What do you guys/gals like or not like about video pedal demos and reviews?

I do love me some Knobs but one thing that I wish I saw more of (not specific to Knobs) is some hard honesty about what some of the downsides or drawbacks of a pedal are. I feel like most reviewers seem reluctant to point out flaws or shortcomings, lest they offend someone (or more likely, the builder/company).

Step 1: Don't use shitty phone audio. When I can hear the actual stings being struck as loudly as the amp..they have fucking failed. Failed beyond failed.
Step 2: Use a recognizable clean tone, and provide some example of *what you're using* sounds like by itself. UBERGAIN 3000 into an already melting Triple Rec doesn't tell me shit about the Ubergain 3000.
Step 3: Play the thing, fast. Not as in shred, but "if I have to sit through five minutes of talking, /fail"
Step 4: Show unit in a variety of settings, with other things doing things. That doesn't mean show it only with some crappy backing tracks, either - how it sits in the idealized mix of garbage backing doesn't tell me much.

I could care less about the artsy-fartsy presentation, or the video itself honestly. I buy pedals for what they sound like.

I don't buy the story or the excitement of Boutique Builder Twelve, employing the last three surviving refugees from Deathistan at fair wage prices. I buy what it sounds like!

One thing I really like about Knobs is he never talks.
Ever.
I don't wanna hear your voice. I can read.

Also, I've always hated backing tracks (this is part of the reason I can never watch a Mike Hermans video).

You pretty much describe my demo style. But the pedals I demonstrate don't yell "ILF" all the time. ;)

MICRO DREAM UDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Super great sounding syrupy delay sounds with all the mayhem and vapor trails you want. Sounds super demented with fuzz and twisting the time knob. Has an internal trimmer to adjust the feedback point so it can go up to self oscillating noise mayhem sound machine control freak pressure plastic perfect walking snowball mixup or not. :joy: :omg: :!!!:

I agree, especially about the backing tracks. I really dislike Mike Hermans demos

I kinda like Mike Hermans. Seems like a pleasant, dad-ish type. Edit: Oh no, I was thinking about Brett Kingman. Yeah, I like Brett Kingman. Seems like a pleasant, dad-ish type.

Also, nobody has mentioned Lord Galvar aka Contriviad?

Eivind August is the best.

Livingroom Gear Demos is great too.

Kayzer is great, but I can't relate to his demo (not my style of music and he is tuned way too low).
