I've had both and I can honestly say that this is true. If they released a module version for $200 I'd definitely snatch one up to pair with my minilogue.
They're really completely different synths, despite both being analogue. Imo the Minilogue is much more of a bread-and-butter strings, pads, soft leads and basses synth, whereas the 'Brutes are dirty and aggressive. Which one is more fun is completely subjective, as both have sort of the same features (Microbrute obviously comes in last here). If nice sounding chords. detuned leads, motion sequencing, etc is your idea of fun, then Minilogue wins. If you want raw blatantly analogue grit then the Brutes win.

Bearstripes wrote:So been looking at new synths for a few months. Wife said she would get me one for Christmas but it has to be under 300. Really like the minilouge but that's outta the price range and the only other one I am looking at is the microbrute. Really like the idea of analog and hate the micro korg. Open to suggestions please
If you really want the Minilogue maybe you could go in together? 3 hundo from the wife and a good coupon/sale and you're not far off.

Not the worst choice, I'm sure. Even if it would be a space-time continuum mystery.

Thanks for the advice everybody!! Think I'm going microbrute. Used prices around 200 so you can't beat that especially with what you get. The only other one that jumped out at me was the ju06 but then I need to get a controller so it gets pretty pricey.

And also I am new to synth if that matters.

While this is very true, if I'm just looking some knob-turnin' fun I remember the microbrute being better. It's definitely just a personal preference kind of thing :idk:

The Novation Bass Station 2 is fucking great—you should add that to your list of considerations. It's a stupidly good synth for the money.

FWIW I got mine from GC for exactly 300, I think. It was open box—I don't think it had even been turned on. Those are awesome deals when you can find em. Keep an eye out on ProAudioStar, etc.
