Yeah, I understand why someone would recommend you TPP based on liking COF, because aesthetically they're undoubtably similar. But based on my brief listen, COF immediately triggers a strong hard blues/classic rock vibe based on the scales they're using, the swagger/looseness they jam on, and a bit of the structure of their riffs.

When I listen to the TPP I don't get that vibe. To my ears TPP is primarily concerned with rhythm, like its pervasive to the point where you could hypothetically say Steve Reich informed their writing. I didn't get that vibe from COF & that's one if the most interesting things about TPP to me.

& the blues influence is not nearly as overt aa COF. I personally am biased against new-to-me music that's heavy on the blues vibe; unless it's stellar as fuck or combined with other contrasting elements it just feels so old hat at this point.

Go listen to Field Recordings from the Sun and then realize it came out nearly a decade before TPP's II.
the first Laddio Bolocko album came out in '97...but i don't really see much musical similarity, besides long songs & an affinity for blown-out recordings.

i think ALL of these bands owe a huge debt to the Japanese bands on the PSF label & (much earlier) Les Rallizes Denudes (as well as a big dose of Krautrock).

example, originally released in '96:

Totes agreed, Voer. I hadn't actually listened to LB before today -- my discussion is all based around TPP. That Mainliner record is fucking killer

another current band i get a somewhat similar vibe from is Aluk Todolo.
They're coming from more of a Black Metal world, but they occupy a similar sonic area often...
