Update: I couldn't get a sound that I liked with anything I had lying around, and I was dubious about getting a box that would supposedly solve the problem. I'd resigned myself to either playing really clean or dirty on this amp. Then I managed to fix my Laney Pro Tube 30, which has been acting fussy for some time. Now I can run the preamp out into my big amp & everything sounds great.
