I mean... I love AF... but the way that indie kids prop it up like it's the only emo record ever made grinds my gears, makes me resent it a little.
Like... Jimmy Eat World's Clarity is all but objectively better than AF's s/t. The difference is they went on to have a sellouty radio career whereas AF stopped making music, thus invoking supply and demand, I guess.
I never held JEW's radio exposure against them... isn't that what they wanted? "Let them open the request lines/Let selection kill the old/Take back the radio"?

His piece in Alternative Press advising every band in the magazine to break up so that the scene could start anew... that was real piece of work that, yes, I still do lowkey hold against him.

I don't really know much about Tim, but my old band played with Joan of Arc. Didn't speak to him much myself, but he seemed pretty mellow and merry overall. Spoke to fans before/after, didn't grumble at his own audience mid-show, and generally seemed pretty positive.
Mike gives off the impression he's had enough of life. He's just waiting for it to end.

Sheesh, tough crowd around here. I see the Kinsella bros. around town once in a while. I saw Mike help a stranger in line get in to a sold out show once, seemed like a nice gesture. I also stood right next to him at Drive Like Jehu. Tim was there too.
New song definitely sounds Owen-ish, but that's not a bad thing.

Nice. #HumbleBrag, once I watched The Atlas Moth play with Atsuo from Boris. Stood side by side, nodded at each other, watched the show for over ten minutes. He had his arms crossed and he was nodding almost imperceptibly.

The toughest. I'm pretty much summing Mike up from that one 30 minute set he played/tuned, and him shunning my mates autograph request (who is/was a total Kinsella fanboy and was pretty miffed about it. I got my boy's back, yo).
Maybe he was just having a bad day. But that's the trouble with first impressions. You only get one.
Prove me wrong, Mike.

first time i saw Mike Kinsella at an Owen show he gave me a free beer so
i'm pretty sure taking ages to tune / breaking strings and taking ages to restring / having somewhat miserable stage banter is just his thing. i'd be much more uncomfortable if he was a bubbly, happy human tbh.

I mean, to be clear, I don't care if Mike or Tim are total jerks, as I don't think they owe me anything other than the enormous discography of beautiful music.
And I haven't even paid for a lot of that. So. Who's the asshole

Another new single. I wish the vocals were lower in the mix.

I don't wanna say it but I'm gonna say it... the vocals kinda killed it for me.

Same. I got the leak & I just can't make it through. The vocals are different in a not-very-good way. Their guitar playing greatly influenced some of my writing/composition, but I can't even appreciate that because the vocals drown it out most of the time.
He's definitely a better singer now, but showing that off might be exactly what tanks this album for me.

I'm light years late in this thread but the only thing this band was good for was getting with high school and college girls.
