Think that's the sort of douchebag who buys a lot of the stuff, plus the praise and worship shitbags.

psychic vampire. wrote:There's also more baseless speculation about boutique reissues of the 303/808/909, which seems weird, but Roland has been doing some weird teasing on the internet so who knows. More weird effects and drum machines and synths is always fun though.
They'll probably just release some new/improved version of the classics that's not very inspiring. BUT. I'd be ridiculously happy if they'd just reissue those.
A friend of mine and I were talking about it the other day—why wouldn't they just reissue the 808 (or any/all of them, for that matter)? The most famous drum machine of all time, sells for $3500 to upwards of $4K? People would buy the shit out of those for $1500-2000 if they just fucking made some. I know the construction probably couldn't be exactly the same due to cost and the need to update some parts here and there, but would it really be that hard?
Not being a Roland scholar by any means, what's been said about this in the past when people have asked for it? I assume it's an issue of construction and an opposition to remake something that's "not innovative," or a sentiment along those lines. Or is it demand? I doubt it.

You can pretty much make them exactly the same as before, minus a couple ICs. Theres a guy in Europe (forget his name) that basically sells full DIY clone kits of the 808 and 909s, like exactly the same minus the IC for the clap which is different.
edit: Yocto is it.

That Yocto looks cool. Gotta say I don't feel even remotely confident about DIY though—I've had maybe a 5% success rate so far.

Yea its definitely not something I'd start out with. It doesn't have any wiring though (from what I see) so thats a god send because I hate wiring to all hell. It's not SMD either so really you just take your time going through the steps and it will be together.

I wonder if the TR8 will see a price drop. It is a cool machine but I didn't think it was worth $500 for so little storage space. I noticed quite a few "drum percussion" items listed in that link with the placeholder empty images. Very interested to see what they are doing. I had a TR707 recently but sold it, sort of still want a drum machine around, maybe that wasn't the right box for me.

thats a lot of gear to drop on one day! theres gotta be something good in there.
roland makes so many different types of things for different demographics tho. "drum percussion" could be more like drummer type stuff rather than drum machine too.

I'd be so happy if they release an update to the SPD-30, even if it's just so I can get the current one for cheap.

True. My interest is piqued, with low expectations and high hopes.
