I'd think the lesson of the iStomp should be remembered: it's a brick the minute the app isn't updated to anew version compatible with your phone.
Also say that realistically it's twice as max expensive as it should be IMO.
Any thought on this? Hotone XTOMP

I got a couple of iStomps when they were on clearance and I think the effects are very good. Some of the more recent Digitech pedals (Polara, etc) appear to draw on similar algorithms and have received very positive reviews. However, the method for changing effects is cumbersome and I would prefer the device itself to be more compact.rfurtkamp wrote:I'd think the lesson of the iStomp should be remembered: it's a brick the minute the app isn't updated to anew version compatible with your phone.

Beefy Boost preamp is good
Crunch dist mediocre
Dr Blues is good (something something name inspired by TGP)
Force mediocre
Governor mediocre
Green 9, Green drive...I'm seeing red. Meaning stop.
Lemonade...was a popular drink and it still is. I get more props and stunts than Bruce Willis
Metaland is good
Monkey drive...no want see, no want do
Plustortion is a big minus
Smooth dist is an awkward miss
Spark drive is good
Swarm drive mediocre
Yellow drive is good
Zen Garden didn't grow on me
Some pleasant surprises for someone who is not a fan of modeled dirt. That muff however is the dullest muff I've ever heard. Half of those profiles are redundant and/or super canned.

It's not a case of whether the iStomp sounded good, just that it was a brick shortly after Apple updated the phones for new stuff coming out.penelope tree wrote:I got a couple of iStomps when they were on clearance and I think the effects are very good. That's what killed it more than anything.
Once the device fails or new tech doesn't work, you're stuck with what's in it.
That's the killer on any of this stuff for me - and why I want things with actual screens and menu diving even if I'd rather use a computer or another device to control it.
Five years in the future, the thing with a screen will still be usable. App-only realistically won't.

The H9 in particular makes me uncomfortable due to the centralized control of purchases and transfer of the device

Yeah, it's always preferable to able to program a unit without having to use a computer or tablet. That's partly why I would favour the Zoom MS-100BT. The iStomp was also hampered by Apple's switch from the 30-pin protocol to Lightning as it required most potential users to purchase an (overly expensive) adapter. I doubt Digitech will develop another pedal that is so tethered to the products of another company following their experience with the iStomp.rfurtkamp wrote:It's not a case of whether the iStomp sounded good, just that it was a brick shortly after Apple updated the phones for new stuff coming out.penelope tree wrote:I got a couple of iStomps when they were on clearance and I think the effects are very good. Yea, tying the iStomp to one device was folly, it's why I couldn't take TC seriously when all they had was iOS stuff for Toneprints for over a year.
Somebody is far far more likely to keep an older PC or actual Mac running far longer than any phone or throwaway device (and have some sort of backward compatibility). It's especially true on a company without a track record of long-term support of a platform (looking at you, Source Audio, with no desktop options for editors for the new stuff, cool as it looks), or when it fails to materialize (Boss DD-500, which is still..perplexing).
It's a shame with the iStomp, I liked some of what I heard but....wasn't going to get an iDevice just for one pedal.
At least the DD-500 is fully functional without an editor apparently.
Just no way I trust Hotone to *be in existence* in five years, let alone be supporting a product.

looks like preorders are flying up for this all over the place.
amazon has it up on prime and makes it look like it ships immediately.
i have $50 credit to amazon and i'm somewhat tempted but nothing in the library blew me away quite yet so i feel like i'd rather see some demoes out of peeps.

I did love this description:
Death is based on the DOD® FX86 Death Metal* distortion pedal, which inspired the dark, heavy sounds of Napalm Death, Carcass, Brutal Truth, and Pungent Stench. With no distortion control, Death is ready with its scythe reap all souls in its path.
