Djent is so fucking watered down because of shit like Periphery, who I fucking hate. I can't even consider Meshuggah djent or I'll probably start to really dislike them. LOL. More experimental metal.

Also Koloss was the shit dude. I like it just as much as the rest of their stuff.

I'm sorry I have to rant a bit more. LOL.

Periphery is awful, just awful. To me, they are everything that is wrong with metal in general. You go from destructive and massive sounding vocals, to fucking pussy (for lack of a better word) vocals in the same song. It sounds like the dude squeezed his ball sack as hard as he could to do his chorus vocals. I mean, come on goddamn it. Growl you fucking bitch! Growl! That's the fucking point isn't it? To be throaty and raw as fuck sounding??? If Meshuggah ever does that bullshit, I'm burning all their albums and getting on plane to find those fuckers and stomp them to death. Please just stop making music if you can't do it anymore. I'd rather that than a band go to the way side like Opeth (you cunts! Fuck you Opeth!!!). God, this this shit pisses me off so much.

LOL. I don't even know what the shit they were listening to was called, i don't even know what Djent is supposed to be but i was told Meshuggah invented it......? Anyway the crap these kids were listening to was whack, and sounded like midi notes played into guitar rig and ez drummer to the max, with some whiney emo bitch on top. SHUDDER.

Tbh I've not been much into metal for at least a decade but always stuck with Meshuggah because they expand my mind, and I find a lot of their tone very akin to electronic music, and just generally fucking awesome. Who the hell else can carve not just a successful groove, but a fucking stone cold break my neck i'm banging so hard groove in those time signatures?
NO ONE.

Jwar, I'm gonna get on Koloss after work.... I probably need to build some familiarity with it to fully appreciate it's awesomeness.

Catch 33 is a great record, too.

Djent is onomatopoeia for that sort of rubbery-razor bouncyball guitar tone that the 'Shug more or less brought to the world with, like, Chaosphere (the older albums don't really have it) but I feel like Nothing is ground zero for it. Like, Closed Eye Visual? That's the best djent song ever written, dude.

Closed Eye Visual is probably my all time favorite Meshuggah song. I could listen to that album over and over and over again though.

Yeah I'm listening to Perpetual Black Second right now for the first time in forever. This band rules.

Perpetual Black Second has always been one of my favorites from Nothing. Meshuggah is incredible, dudes. One of my favorite bands, and I've never been able to pick a favorite album of theirs.

Periphery is just this generation's Dream Theater. I don't like their music at all, but as people they are really cool dudes. :idk: They are introducing a lot of people into what's more or less the new paradigm of the music industry, of which they do really well. They also stand out to me because they immensely popular despite their genre, having a steady stream of people listening to more extreme forms of music is what keeps it alive, you know?

Now here's hoping kids trying to copy them end up making way better shit, as happened with some of the Dream Theater inspired bands (Opeth, for example).

...I also might follow one of their guitarist on Instagram because he owns a lot of fine-furniture guitars that are pure eyecandy.

I haven't made up my mind about Periphery. Can't say I've really listened to them enough to make a judgement call... I may see them at the end of the month, and that's a BIG "may". Mainly because I have a friend who loves them and can't go, so it would make him happy if I caught the show.

Jwar's assessment on them was pretty hilarious, though.

I think the interesting thing about them is that they started as an internet band for nerdy guitar players who liked Meshuggah and modeling and ERGs. I don't listen to them but I'm also not really in that target market.

Just gave Koloss another spin - I stand corrected this album is awesome! Still not knocking I and catch 33 off my top spot but man there are some seriously killer moments in this thing!

Confession: Demiurge from Koloss is my favorite Meshuggah track.

Catch 33 is their best album though, but I listen to that as a whole more than its pieces.

They are cool dudes!! For sure! Nolly has an amazing tone! I love it too as a bass player. The singer ruins the band though. Just ruins it. I just cannot stand that heavy then soft shit. The only band to ever do that well IMO is the Deftones. But Chino is the shit.

Also I fucking hate Dream Theater. hahaha

I've given Periphery their fair share of play too. I just cannot stand the shit. It makes me want to stab my ear drums with a fucking hat pin.

It's definitely different! Catch 33 was like one big song, which made it unique in the same way as Nothing, which is still my all time favorite. I didn't think I'd like Koloss as much as I did but after playing it over and over, I began to love it more and more. It's now in my regular rotation.

Periphery is utter garbage. Djent is a sad genre. I love Meshuggah and have considered getting an 8 string but always go against getting one cause I'm not sure if I could make something with it that isn't a Meshuggah rip-off - which all Djent really is.

Godflesh did a good job of using an 8 string in a non-Djent way with their last album.

Meshuggah found their own way and it's really just their way.

I heard of Meshuggah cause of Tool - I was a big Tool fan (still am) - and saw them open for Tool in 2002 a couple times. Mind-blowing show.
