I had an dist+ for a while, it almost did what i wanted it to, but it couldn't really get loud enough and cut too much bass (in my opinion) when i turned the gain up. But i now have a DOD 250 reissue that i LOVE! more output volume and a different gain quality, but it works for me on guitar and bass.
so... we all need EQD Grey Channels to get pretty much every clipping option from this family of circuits.

My dist+ experience is limited, but as far as I'm concerned it falls in the same "decent, but redundant these days" category that a Rat, guv'nor, ts808, or old Boss overdrive falls into
I basically 'respect' those circuits in a weird way, they probably were the inspiration for a lot of newer/improved stuff, and tons of bands I grew up with -as well as my current taste- probably got their sound from those old school dirt peds. But nowadays it's hard not to trip over an affordable dirt box that does the same thing, and more, and better
Having said that, after A LOT of buying/flipping, my carefully selected dirt arsenal ended up consisting of a hotcake, '70s Maxon D&S and an FZ-2

I upgraded to an Acapulco Gold which (to my ears) sounds like a slightly better D+ with a volume boost.
Been a while since I even looked at my Distortion +, actually.

Jerry Garcia was a big D+ user. I always remember that when I think of them... pretty surprising / cool.

So was Bob Mould actually. Jerry Garcia, Bob Mould...If those names aren't enough to give that pedal rawk cred, ya might as well give up

Bob still uses it. The Tym clone. I have a Gray Channel that I love a lot. I like simple.

I can't say I'd use it to overdrive an amp since it seems a little to quiet to do that, but pushing it with a darker overdrive (Hot Tubes, Rat) can balance out its brightness, thicken it up, and make some sweet distortion.

I've always wanted to try one but there's no way I wouldn't just use it to exclusively play Roky Erickson riffs.

Yeah, Gray Channel is the best thing I've bought in recent memory. Really cool to have so many iterations of a 250 in one pretty small box, especially with the switchable channels. I feel like that thing can really clear some other pedals off of a board.

I was coming in here to say this. The grey channel is the perfect overdrive
