it sounds like you know what pedal you want fmChankgeez wrote:Like maybe Hungry Robot.

Just figured it's worth asking, I'm actually a bit surprised that with the bazillion of crazy pedlols out there these days, so few (just one?) builders manage to squeeze in two difference full flown dirt circuits into one small enclosure
Would've been nice to have a couple more options, the HR isn't exactly easy to come by in this part of the world, especially not on the used market
Dunno what sort of whichcraft they use, I'm not electronics wiz, but I'm sure there's gotto be a two sided pcb inthere crammed with smd's...Right? So having someone build me a similar pedal doesn't seem too realistic...

It's not double sided or SMD (most boutique builders don't use either), just that their circuit isn't an enormous parts count and the PCB is laid out efficiently.frigid midget wrote:Dunno what sort of whichcraft they use, I'm not electronics wiz, but I'm sure there's gotto be a two sided pcb inthere crammed with smd's...Right? $220 isn't that bad for two dirt pedals. you'll have more options if you're okay with a larger pedal (as indicated by the responses here so far), and to be honest i don't know how that thing wouldn't be a pain in the ass to use with two footswitches so close together anyway, thus the zvex layout making more sense for that kinda thing.

I used to use one of these.

The Blackstone Appliances Mosfet OD
It's not super high gain, but it could do a cranked Plexi pretty well, and the "brown" channel added a great "almost clean" grit to my Jazzmaster

Zvex stuff sounds pretty marshally and is nice and very practical.
Why not just stack two overdrives?

Re: What small dual channel dirt peds are there?
Thanks.
I just wanted to go over all the available options for my lean and mean super efficient layed out pedlol board...Figured that with THAT many nice peds out here, I could afford to be picky. Guess I'm might be a bit TOO picky here
I'm usually not a big fan of two-in type pedals or multi effects. There's always some sort of compromise involved. And this case, with having both my dirt tones coming from one pedal, one thing that's making me concider two seperate pedals after all: I wouldn't be able to mix up the order of my pedals and sandwich reverb/delay/mod peds between both dirt pedals :s
But mostly, my top pick for high gain dirt doesn't necessarily happen to come in the same enclosure that houses my favorite low gain dirt tone
So yeah, at this point I'm thinking I should just keep my Hotcake dialed in for medium gain (what it does best), and stick to my d&s (muff) for higher gain shit.

I don't understand all of this low mid medium-high gain bullshit, I only have two settings when it comes to dirt, mild crunch and nuclear blast.

I tend to keep the gain pretty low on everything and stack to the max.

Same here, I just refer to my 'mild crunch' as 'medium gain', cause most people's definition of 'mild' is probably a lot less brutal than mine
So yeah, two dirt settings here as well, but for the nuclear blast departement I've got three different pedals to choose from

Try stacking a tube screamer into your hot cake. It's an awesome combo and you can get really thrashy tones out of that.

Re: What small dual channel dirt peds are there?
The challenge to doing a dual OD in a "small" box is that to keep it actually small, you have to put the footswitches close together. And then people bitch because the footswitches are close together.
You can go the Blackstone / Zvex route and turn the small box horizontal, but then it takes up almost as much space as a bigger box in a vertical configuration.
I wasn't going to get into it, but since somebody else brought up the Third Rail.... It has a separate bypassing mode that allows for toggling between the two sides with a single switch press. It's basically a flip-flop mode, so the one switch toggles sides and the other is a bypass for the whole pedal. And of course you can also use it the "standard" mode in which each side has its own independent bypass switch.
But it's definitely not "small".

Actually...You're partially to blame for my lack of board spaceculturejam wrote:The challenge to doing a dual OD in a "small" box is that to keep it actually small, you have to put the footswitches close together. And then people bitch because the footswitches are close together.![]()

The reason I bring that up: How's that new Function (FX) delay pedal coming along?

It's on the back burner at the moment, sorry. We're wrapping up a tremolo-phaser right now and getting ready for Summer NAMM.frigid midget wrote:The reason I bring that up: How's that new Function (FX) delay pedal coming along?

Probably for the best, if I don't slow down a bit I'll run into some minor cash flow problems :sculturejam wrote:Whatchoo sellin?frigid midget wrote:depending on how soon I find a new owner for my guitar.![]()

Kinda off-topic maybe, but who cares: The guitar I plan on selling is a secksy all black Gibson LP Jr Lite. Spam alert for my fellow Euro forumites: It's yours for 650Euro, incl hardcase. I'm having trouble posting a pic, need to update my flash player or some shit...
