Might as well call that new Soundgarden. Plus there was that wack reunion record they came out with a few years ago.

Yeah we're just going to pretend that never happened.

And by that I mean even their massive record is a fucking banger. I would probs do naughty things to claim Mailman's main riff.
Right! Just listened to Soundgarden all morning...all of Superunknown and BMF. Had the same thought about Mailman, and 4th of July. And Limo Wreck. And Rusty Cage. That band is unimpeachable if you ask me. Saw them at Red Rocks a while ago...what a great night. Also saw Cornell solo at a small venue a couple years ago. Good lord.

Tried this one out (King Animal, I think?). Not good. But, short of backing Trump, there's not a lot they can do to tarnish their reputation. Even Cornell's solo missteps don't count for me.

Fucking listen to this, then think about 1994.

Anyway, my tween neighbor tried to interest me in Puddle of Mudd on the strength of "She Fucking Hates Me" and its edginess when it came out. So, edgy enough for 13 year-old girls. La la la la.

Is buttrock a legit class, or is it more of an approach? There are some rad bands that sound buttrock-ish--but they are self-aware. The other bands that fall squarely in the crack of buttrock have a taint (hm?) of rape-iness or bro-tality, but there isn't really a buttrock sound, right?

Spoken like a person who hasn't listened to Scream.

And Kickstand. And My Wave. And Superunkown -- the track. Saw C.C. do an acoustic version of Black Hole Sun ages ago with Audioslave (who were fun, despite not being even close to a sum of their parts) which was also killer.

SG is legit as fuck. no butt rock fucks given. I even thought their reunion album was decent, given it could have been a complete disaster.

Saw them several times in the 90s, and then again a couple of years ago. Cornell can still bring it.

4th of July may be the heaviest riff ever written.

I loved the first Audioslave record, but see what you mean. It hasn't had good staying power, nor have I heard it in probably a decade. But I was sad about RATM, and think Cornell is unbelievable, so there was really nothing they could do to disappoint 16 year-old Invisible Man. Cochise is still pretty rad, though, as is Shadow on the Sun. And pretty much all the guitar solos on every single track.

Kickstand? I love that middle part with the dissonant widdly-widdly stuff, but that song bugs me otherwise. But, really, we could keep going...that whole album is ridiculous. As close to perfect as they get. Black Days? The Day I Tried to Live? FFS

Meant to post this earlier. Got the titles mixed. Politician was '91. But both are rad.

Yeah we definitely have overlapping experiences re: audioslave. But, yeah, Superunknown = classic. I'm sure that's a contentious take.

Soundgarden is archetypically pure buttrock. Platonic, even.

I classify buttrock as rock that has the singer doing that thing with his voice where you clinch your jaw so all 'R's are really pronouced and kind of singing from the throat. I think Eddie Vedder was kind of the proto-type butt rocker vocalist.

Usually they like Mesa amps too.
