Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
Selling certainly can be a pain in the ass for sure. I only like to sell shit when I need money, which seems to be all the time since I'm a pedal whore. LOL.
I'd love to trade more, but it's hard to get what you want out of a trade. I've been screwed so many times by trades. Not that they were horrible, more I didn't know what I was getting into. Although I have been fucked my fair share of times. LOL!!
Now when I'm buying stuff, I honestly look here first, then Reverb. If some homie don't got it here, I've got to go elsewhere. Ebay is a LAST resort. LOL. I hate the bay so much now.

Here, then reverb, as of recently. Ebay in the way past, but fuck that shit. People are payingnless and ebay is taking more, so fuck it. Had people back out of purchases, but never return shit.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
I list here for about a week first but have only ever had one trade out of it (bugbrand audioweevil08 <-> snazzy fx mini ark) - went perfectly even being a U.S. to UK trade, but no one has ever bitten for a cash sale.
I then list on reverb AND ebay, with the ebay list price being higher to reflect all their insane fees, I always put in the eBay listing that it is also available on reverb and generally encourage people to buy from me on there to save themselves and myself money.
Oh and yeah, returns only for DOA, I had a situation on eBay lately where I sold my x0xb0x and listed issues with non responsive buttons and a crackly res pot, the guy I sold it to contacted me with a million issues it supposedly had and said he had to return it, I asked about what power supply he was using and I got an abusive pissed off message back, so for ease I accepted his return and shit myself a little that it had got fucked in the post. Upon return it was exactly as I'd sent it, perfect except the buttons and crackly pot, I reported him to ebay who gave no follow up, and basically lost £20 sending and receiving the synth..... EBay fucking sucks.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
I should amend my comments a bit. My preferred place to sell is here, but stuff doesn't always sell here. Sometimes stuff doesn't sell anywhere. For instance, I have a lot of pedals up right now in various places, but they aren't the "this is the hot shit" pedals. So who knows if they'll ever sell. Hahaha. When I have stuff like that listed, pricing is everything. If I can offer it at a great deal, someone will bite. Which kind of sucks because I lose money that way, but at the same time I'm getting money I didn't have.
I'll give you a for instance of a shitty situation. I have a Stonefly Effects Two Headed Werewolf for sale, and have for awhile. It's not going to sell because some douche on TGP offered his up for 135 shipped. It was almost 300 bucks new!!! LOL! Asshole tanked the value! I refuse, I mean, outright refuse to take less than 180 for it and that's a loss. But in his defense, I've done the same shit many, many times. I've offered stuff so low that people actually makes comments like "what the fuck is wrong with you"? hahahaha. It's all a game man. Gotta sell sometimes. When times are rough and pedals are sitting, fuck it. Money comes and goes. Just like pedals.
So yea, you guys are my prefered to deal with, but it doesn't always work.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
Yea, I listed a few things recently (all at a loss), one sold.
I'm fine with that, I didn't need the money and was just trying to pass a deal on and clear some space out of my milk crate of miscellaneous disrepute.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
I only sell stuff on here and on a couple of Norwegian FB-pages. Most often it's gone within a week, even after a couple of hours, which never ceases to surprise me as I tend to sell relatively obscure, noisy pedals. I keep prices low, though. Was kinda surpriced when I started dealing internationally and saw people selling used stuff at close to new prices - used to the norm being half of new price (+10% if it's something "fancier") unless it's something really rare. Anyway, never had any problems. I expect to loose money, and am mostly interested in moving stuff to clear up any surfaces in my room.
Trades are cool, but I'm pretty picky/specific, so have only done a handful.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
I very rarely use Reverb to sell. There have been a ton of just awful things happening to sellers there the past few months. Ebay sucks it hard. Both are way to biased towards the buyer. Especiall with Paypal's 180 day window to file a claim. Sorry fuck a bunch of that. I would much rather sell or trade here at ILF. TGP, and The Reranch forum. Never had any problems on any of the forums. Also it is easier to search a username and see if they have a history of being a flake.
Craigslist round here can be hit or miss. Have done pretty well buying but only so-so selling. Everyone thinks their shit is gold but want to get your stuff for nothing.

what's happened with sellers on reverb? I'm completely oblivious to this!Aquietcabin1978 wrote:I very rarely use Reverb to sell. I prefer to sell here, but I rarely sell (now is a rare exception and it's mostly to ensure that I can afford this upcoming trip and ILFEU).

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
This seems to be the MO on Reverb and the Bay. Well, also Craigslist. I've mentioned it on another thread (or two), but I find it absolutely mind-boggling that people will charge five or ten bucks off of new price for a pedal, even if it is in excellent condition. Used is used.Aquietcabin1978 wrote:Everyone thinks their shit is gold but want to get your stuff for nothing.
Not that people can't/shouldn't try, but I just find it stingy, tacky and unrealistic. Personal opinion.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
Pedals, guitars: reverb, forums (tgp, here, offset, muffwiggler)
Amps: craigslist
Reverb is super convenient for me. Craigslist seemed to be kinda ok for selling stuff, but in the past 3 years or so there seems to be just not many people using it except scammers, it takes ages to sell stuff on it now. I've had close to 50 transactions on Reverb and only 2 of them were wack. A seller took over a month to refund money for an item shipped back and a certain big box in brooklyn tried to bait and switch something with me and it was hassle to get them to refund my money. Reverb was completely unhelpful in those disputes so its a roll of the dice I guess but I've had a good track record with it so far.
USPS for pedals, Fedex or UPS for larger stuff.

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
I think people overvalue things on CL because they know that buyers will generally try to hammer sellers on price no matter how "reasonable" the asking price is. I've checked out the going rates for use gear at various places and priced my stuff a bit lower and I still get people wanting nearly 40-50% off my asking price. And when I've agreed to meet them halfway, they flake. Maybe it's just my area as it wasn't this much of a hassle when I lived in Dallas.Aquietcabin1978 wrote:Craigslist round here can be hit or miss. Have done pretty well buying but only so-so selling. Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
Yeah I've had pretty good luck selling stuff on Craigslist in terms of getting the prices I want—eventually something does go through. That said, I'm inundated with trade requests, even if I post "ABSOLUTELY NO TRADES" in the ad.
For the most part though, I've only had good luck with really popular stuff on CL, which makes sense. (Strymon, EQD)

Re: Your preferred place/method for selling gear
Lots of bogus claims on the part of buyers claiming to have never received items even when a signature was required. Reverb and ebay almost always side with the buyer. The seller is then out money and the item they sold.chrisdermo wrote:what's happened with sellers on reverb? I'm completely oblivious to this!Aquietcabin1978 wrote:I very rarely use Reverb to sell.
