:"Indie" and "college" are such broad designators as to be virtually meaningless! It's been literal decades since "indie" actually meant "music made by bands on an independent record label," for example. I think that you could quite safely make the argument for either Big Star or the Velvets or early RHCP being "college" rock. What would you consider them? Power-pop? Classic rock? Protopunk?
