I saw the Deftone's back in 97-98, somewhere in there. Best fucking show ever. I was super close to the stage and Chino was full of energy and just tearing shit up. Around the Fur was the last great album IMO. White Pony had some good songs, but I remember thinking "what the fuck is this shit"?

I've always loved Chino too, so it fucking pisses me off. Their new stuff sounds like a wet blanket compared to the good ole days. I mean, haters gonna hate I guess. But fuck me. I'm so tired of bands going all pussy to sell albums.

Yeah I've seen them a handful of times and sometimes Chino sounds great, other times he sounds like a cat with the munchies getting its pastries mashed into dust.

So it goes, though. I still like the new stuff well enough but they're definitely one of those bands that created their masterpiece (which is White Pony, particularly without the Maverick-imposed single at the front) and kind of... kept going after that for no good reason. At least that's how it sounds as a discog in retrospect.

Another new song released!

Dudes, this is my favorite band for nostalgia sake and based on their first 3 albums. I've liked a lot of what they've done since but not in comparison to those first 3. After hearing these first two songs i haven't been this excited for a new Deftones album since White Pony. Holy hell this song slays. I love that Stephen doesn't have his guitars tuned down as much as he has on the last 4 albums or so. It sounds so good. Makes me want an Axe FX.

I dig the vibe, the riffs, the vocals, always the drumming. A lot of this feels like old Deftones mixed with new flavors. So pumped. Hoping i get into the SXSW showcase this Friday to see them and hear this new stuff live in a small venue (in comparison to where they normally play these days).

I listened to part of the Palms album again and yea, I just can't. It's fucking boring as hell. It's like one big ass song but not a good one.

Everyone raved about Koi No Yokan and it is my least favorite of their albums. Diamond Eyes, though, was instant love!

I dig it all. Even Saturday Night Wrist, which seems to have a poor rep. My least favourite is probably the debut LP, which sounds a little too quintessentially nu-metal for my tastes. everything else is the jam.

Oh, apart from that Back To School song. That track is the pits.

Vinyl rip of Phantom Bride, Gore, and Acid Hologram have all surfaced on youtube. Really strong tracks in my opinion. Not gonna bother with links as I'm sure these will be removed shortly, but the youtube search is pretty handy.
