Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers

Dano FAB Echo (slapback) is a cheap p.o.s. plastic one trick pony. Recommended.
I mean. I don't say shitty in any way demeaning, but it has a certain quality of lofiness imo. I feel it's got that choppy kind of sound to it if that makes sense? Also, afterneath seems really cool, and I think the texture it would at could be of interest to the OP so that's why I mentioned it. You description made me GAS even more for itfrigid midget wrote:I don't even consider an RV3 "shitty", imo it can hang with the best of 'em. Sure, there's more pristine sounding, "studio" quality reverbs out there, but when if you're after gritty/lofi fucked up reverb sounds, something like the RM1N or Midiverb might do the trick a lot better.
I've got an Afterneath, which is a whole other animal imo. It'll chop up whatever you feed it , in an eery ambienty way, different from even the mosted washed out sounding 'classic' plate reverb emulating pedal. I highly recommend it, though not for conventional reverb effects or synthy/glitchy/modulated stuff. It's small, top jacks, not too pricey nor unobtainable...
About the Afterneath : try one of you can first. It is a neat effect but it tends to always produce the same patterns of repeats with its delay lines and this can be annoying or not depending on how you use it. This and the fact that it does not do normal reverbs at all (I wanted to tweak it live from normal to weird) made me trade mine.Brandsmannen wrote:I mean. They can be found quite easily but the price is not always great (though it might be better than in the US, I have no idea how much they cost there). If you're in Shibuya at some point try the Ishibashi shop there, they have tons of secondhand pedals and there's a big display full of Boss pedals ordered by type.sergiomunoz74 wrote:I'll be in Japan in a couple months maybe I will just try and score some MIJ RV-2 or RV-3 there
I'll probably try to find some stores but if you can give me a good amount of choices that would be rad. My girlfriend is native so she'll help me navigate my way into anywhere. From what I can tell looking at online stores for stuff like synths, the exchange rate definitely makes it worth it on Japanese made stuff so I guess I just assumed I could get one for a relative deal. Maybe not a super deal unless it's straight up luck.oscillateur wrote:They can be found quite easily but the price is not always great (though it might be better than in the US, I have no idea how much they cost there). Interesting but definitely too big haha. I already have a space echo for stuff that stays at home although the verb on my space echo isn't shitty by any means!SoaringTortoise wrote:You can't get anymore lo-fi than the CheeseVerb.

Yeah I know, I meant 'shitty' the same way as you. The RV3 was considered pretty 'hifi' back in the day, but I get why you'd say it's lofi. I figured the OP was after something even more lofi sounding though. Or indeed something like the Afterneath. It has its limitations. You don't want to try playing shimmery p&w shit or dreamy postrock stuff with it. Which is kinda the reason I picked it over a "real" reverb pedal in the first placeBrandsmannen wrote:I mean. Yeah all the recommendations were spot on, I just have to try and be real with some decisions especially if later on I start feeling certain pedals have a gimmicky sound. shimmery p&w or dreamy post rock are probably my least favorite sounds in this world haha. I had a post rock phase or as I call it "crescendo core" and I had a wet reverb and oodles of delays. Now I rarely use delays for anything other than a touch of ambience. 2 ps-2's and I probably can count the times I have used it in a band setting with one hand. I like the lo-fi sounds when I need them because the pitchfactor is pretty dang hi-fi and I use it pretty heavily so adding a little bit of lo-fi ambience helps make it more "me".frigid midget wrote:Yeah I know, I meant 'shitty' the same way as you.
